Actually, I think the perspective does make sense, it's the perspective of the original that doesn't. The textures on the original have been warped so it makes more sense in a 2D setting. I think.

And this is why a CG artist would come in real handy for this kind of things...

...Or somebody with paper, a pen and a decent camera.

Well, I think I'm done working for the night. Here's what I'm currently working on:

Now, the grass isn't anywhere near finished (right now I'm just shaping it. I'm not even done with that), but hopefully this conveys what I'm going to try to do with it.

  4. I just wish I was better at 3ds Max ^^

And, Death of Rats, I didn't mean to say your work was bad, or anything like that, it's fantastic.

I agree that the light shade on the nose -I'm stupid-looks-I'm stupid- too big but its the exact same size of the original so I left it as is. Il gladly change it though as its been bugging me for ages, should I just reduce its size or add a few more shades? I was thinking of adding a thin band of the second lightest grey colour along the bottom edge to soften it slightly.

Im trying hard not to embelish too much.

Sorry maybe I didn't explain myself correctly, I was talking about the lighter gray shade on the lower jaw, not the white on the nose!

EDIT: Ignore the mspaint quality. It's just to point out what to change :)

oh ok, I will fix that and the shell shine no problem. One thing though, do you really think the jaw needs to be rounded? Looking at the sprite, to me it looks like a distinctly angled. I don't mind changing if people think it needs it but, to be honest, Im not seeing a curve there!

Maybe its just how the brain fills in what's not there

I'm inclined to agree with you. Judging by the way the shadow is cast, it looks like the jaw is angled.

Please update it like this example :)
Add more inbetweens also for yellows and the grey metal parts!

Nice edit. Want me to use your version or work on mine more? The colors seem to be pretty good. Looks like you changed the glare on the eye just a tad, things aren't as symmetrical as before. But I'm not too sure if that's a good or a bad thing. I guess it's up to everyone's opinion.

I mean it looks pretty near complete to me besides a few tiny things like the in-between. I'll get a chance to edit it a bit later today. :)

I originally created the object in Flash, so when exported to illustrator and reimported some things change (Like the color mode from RGB to CMYK) but, let me know what you want me to do.

Well, it's up to you which base to use now :)
Mine was a quick edit to show you about color and shading on eye, the metal plate still needs more "metal" effect, and inbetweens with yellows.

I was playing around with the lower tile-row of flowers

If anything - the background may better be off done using real life photographs and photoshop
Although getting the style to fit would be hard - hmm

I dunno, I think what you got there is working pretty well.

Yeah, especially since those flowers can be interpreted as anything with those yelow-orange colours

Actually, that looks really cool, and reminds me a bit of how Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland for the GBA was done. It's sort of refreshing, though I'm not sure if it's right for the project.

This seems odd but is there any anti-aliasing going onto the corkscrew because theres none at at the moment and it is irritating me slightly.

The look of it is basicly conveying something drawn on animation cels - giving it that hazy/blurry feel
