If SEGA wants to bring back classic Sonic to cater to the fans, they easily can. It's like how they're making a decent sequel to a famous series + - Phantasy Star Online 2. :U You do have some pretty good points, but people have opinions, some people don't like the style that Sonic is represented in. It's called opinion, Deal with it.
My best guess, and it's probably stupid, but if Sonic had black eyes like before, I guess to some people, he would look more like a Cartoon character rather than another anime/manga character. I know there has been plenty of anime characters with black eyes, but the current style of Sonic's eyes definitely say "anime/manga." Again, just guessing.
It wouldn't be the Sonic Community if people didn't whine :v: Although personally, I haven't ever seen one person on the entire internet complaining solely about Sonic's eye colour. The entire design was changed drastically, so of course some people are gonna prefer one design over the other because they're so different - I wouldn't call that nitpicking, myself. I'd love to see classic Sonic return, but if he doesn't... it's a shame, but these things happen. I'll still prefer the classic design to the new one even if he doesn't ever come back. On another subject, I've just seen that Mighty design that was posted a little earlier in the topic - I really like it. It's nice and simple, and not too different from the original.
There is a big difference between opinion and constant bitching. It's not so much what Sonic is, it's how people perceive him, and that's their problem. SEGA doesn't need to change Sonic. The fanbase isn't all people who were growing up with him. New fans alike, but older fans need to understand that shit happens, things change, and to know when to stop whining about things. Edit: The only 'real' design changes were longer limbs, slightly longer spikes, spike repositioning, updated shoes, and different eyes. Again, all subtle changes. During gameplay you're not going to see what colour x is. You may see how long say his arms are, but in all honesty, who cares? You don't like it, okay, but don't whine about it.
Thanks, Irixion. You reminded me of that kick-ass artist, but is also an elitist prick when it comes to Sonic the Hedgehog's design. I thought I forgot about him...XD I do find it funny hardly anyone complains about Tails and Knuckles designs, but I think the common complaint Tails get is his fur color...I think. Knuckles design from the original hasn't changed much. Just curious, but since there's a Sonic comic going on, has there been a picture of Nack/Fang with the SA look or something? Just makes me wonder what he looks like now, but unfortunately, I don't see him coming back since he has a gun (and having a pop gun like in Sonic the Fighters is kind of embarrassing).
Yeah, Fang got himself a tall, slender remake in one of the Comics after Adventure 2. Not only that, but he had a posse, and Fang actually shot and killed Mina Mongoose but she was just fine a few issues later. I don't have the scans anymore or I'd show them.
Actually Tails' main flaws are that he's about as pee-yellow as Cubot, instead of a yellow-orange; and he has a nonexistant snout. Also for some reason his cowlicks look as if they've been groomed upwards and gelled to stick there, rather than the hairs that lay more downward. It looks really awkward on him from any angle. Knuckles' main problem is that for some reason, no matter it be him in the Unleashed design or what, his arms and legs are about the same proportion to him as they are for every character in Sonic Riders / SR:ZG. His arms and legs look ape-ishly long and for some reason grow wider the closer they are to the gloves/socks, which makes no sense at all. Also his muzzle is super small in comparison to how it used to be.
We can have an opinion on it if we want to. I don't think you're in any position to tell us otherwise.
All of us here know when Sonic looked his best, Akira Watanabe's efforts will forever be Sonic to me. So when did Sonic look his worst? It can be from anywhere. I think his design really went wrong with Heroes. Nike smile, long dong spines, long legs, square slim body, bright green eyes, bright blue colour, it's just an abomination. Even though in SA2 his spines where long, they were curved and rigid, where as here they just flop from the back of his head. They got more right than wrong with the SA2 model, Heroes took it in a disturbing new direction.
I actually quite liked Sonic 06's look. Although....in the teaser trailer...with that forehead.... I'm gonna say he looked his worst round about then, aside from the obvious choices.
He looks completely wrong in the 3D render used for the model 2 Mega CD BIOS. He looks even worse in that Japanese Sonic 1 ad though... Albeit everybody looked horrible on that one.
Dic made Sonic look like a Looney Tunes character, and that was the reason why I dislike watching them again. It's bad for my eyes. This. OH GOD THIS.
This one is by far the worst in my opinion. The Heroes model is a close second. I know I'm alone on this, but I always preferred Assface Sonic over all the other versions. Maybe it's because I grew up with that.
I wouldn't say I preferred Assface Sonic to the others, but I don't think he looks anywhere near as bad as some of the other Sonic designs (maybe it's a nostalgia thing). As for when Sonic looked his worst: I think some of the original Adventure artwork looks horrible, particularly the box-art picture: That expression, that weird pose, those overly long spines... Just no. I used to think it looked OK, but now I've come to realise how ugly it is. Gotta agree with the Heroes render that SteelBrush posted earlier, that's just nasty in every possbile way and I've never liked it.
How does everyone think the humans should look? Personally, I liked the more anime-ish looks they had in Sonic Adventure. It fits that design philosophy more.
