Had time to watch the video promo, and can't help but notice there's a LEGO Sonic 2 styled Death Egg Robot in the background as the sphere launches through the loop. That's not in any of the currently-announced sets, and looks different to either version from the IDEAS pitch, too. An easter egg for fans, or a tease for an as-yet-unannounced set...? I'd been hoping the Death Egg Robot would make it into the final version of the IDEAS set, so if they're actually doing one in future I'd definitely be interested in getting it. Incidentally, a full 16:9 version of the video can be found here: https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/1648672800524189697 EDIT: Just realised, only four sets have currently been announced, but the initial leak suggested we should expect five. What's the bet that the Death Egg Robot's the missing one?
Sonic is unbearably annoying in that ad. It's like AoStH Sonic and film Sonic had a baby and it's awful. I get that it's aimed at kids, but I grew up loving the OVA, Adventure 1 and 2, etc. You don't need to turn Sonic into a hyperactive idiot to be an attractive character to kids. Isn't Sonic supposed to be "cool?" On what planet is this cool? I would much prefer him to be relaxed than a self-obsessed dweeby kid.
in every set he's in he's lounging on a chair lol that's pretty relaxed But yeah I don't really like how he's portrayed in the trailer either, oh well
That's all well and good, but it'd be nicer if Sega insisted on a coherent characterisation for Sonic across media or at least kept the obvious movie/Prime Sonic interpretation confined to those places.
The launcher and ramp set look kinda lame and not very LEGO-y, but Amy's island looks great, and I'm hopeful for that Death Egg Robot set.
He miss his wife? He looks really not bad, comparing with that ugly egg bionicle Also, who could've think that lego ideas set will create a line of sets
Happened with Minecraft. I'm just happy that the game gimmick isn't an all or nothing thing like Mario and we got proper minifigs from this. The launch gimmick takes me back to the greatest Sonid toy ever made.
Now that they've been officially announced, I'm really glad that 21331 wasn't the end of things and there's a wider range accessible for everyone to enjoy. The speed slammer gimmick isn't intrusive but looks entertaining, and of course the expanded minifig assortment is amazing. Feels really good for things to have sparked in this way.
Probably, but the LEGO set in particular matches this cover more than the OVA scene or the Adventure end card for his store, with the specific colour and pattern on the deck chair, the colours of the parasol, the chilli dogs, blue cool and can of Chaos Cola.
Yeah $100 for the loop de loop set is crazy. The original Green Hill zone set was only like $70 and came with way more pieces.
Is it me or these sets are unimpressive and overpriced? Don't get me wrong, It's great that we are getting new sets... Just... It could have been much better. Where's my Death Egg Robo Lego/Sega!?
I must be the only one who likes the original Dr Robotnik fig. They were going for a very classic LEGO style build, and I love it. I do think the new sets look nice, I’m hoping for another 18+ set though.
None of these sets caught my interest, but based on the ball gimmick I assume these are targeted mainly at kids, so I'm okay with that. I'm getting a vibe similar to the one I get from the Minecraft Lego sets, which to me are visually unappealing stacks of bricks that don't look any fun to put together.
...OK, slight adjustment to what I said before; the previous images made it look like the Tornado build wasn't actually big enough for Sonic or Tails to sit in the cockpit, but I'm guessing that was just an optical illusion (or a scaling error when multiple photos were comped together), as the packaging for the set makes it clear that they can. That means there is one set from the announced four that I'd be interested in getting for myself after all, as it has my favourite character and the heroes' iconic mode of transport. = ) As I mentioned earlier, one can be seen in the promo video at roughly 0:48, in the background when Sonic rolls around the big loop. From what I can make out it's a brand-new build, and doesn't match either version from the original pitch for the LEGO Ideas set. It's also the only LEGO thing in the video that's not from one of the announced sets, so I can only assume it's a cheeky hint towards another upcoming release. Combined with the leaked info from earlier in the year stating that there'd be five sets in 2023, I'm convinced they'll properly reveal a Death Egg Robot set nearer the release date - or at least I'm hoping so, as I've wanted one ever since the initial Ideas pitch...!
Death Egg Robot set: https://www.sonicstadium.org/2023/06/build-your-demise-as-lego-reveals-death-egg-robot-playset/ https://www.lego.com/en-us/kids/set...th-egg-robot-5367fee4b25f775d4b08d9e867bb7ab9 Not sure how I feel about this build design. I also wish they would've made a classic Eggman to go along with this kind of set but oh well.
