Remember that Green Hill Zone Lego Ideas set we got thanks to our friend @Roller? Looks like that won't be the end of Sonic Legos!

PromoBricks (a reliable source for Lego-related news) has found that five new Sonic sets are scheduled for Lego's Summer 2023 release rotation (so likely sometime in August), via VGC. The set numbers and prices found are, as follows:
    • 76990: $29.99, 292 pcs.
    • 76991: $39.99
    • 76992: $49.99
    • 76993: $59.99
    • 76994: $99.99
I am all for Lego Sonic becoming a full theme, there's so much you could do with it. Being able to build iconic stages and moments from Sonic games is real exciting.

if the $99.99 set isn't based on the Sonic Dreams Collection level where Rouge gives birth I am literally never buying anything from Sega ever again

I just got Lego GHZ for Christmas! It’ll be interesting to see what happens next if this is true!

Slice of life visual novel, coming soon...?
I'm all for cheaper options, I ran into the Green Hill Zone set during christmas shopping and it was like 79€ or something lmao, way too expensive for me unfortunately

  4. Yeah, I wanted to get it but the price put me off. I have never bought anything from Lego but while looking for it in shops, I was surprised by how expensive all the Lego sets are. I don’t really like Lego and don’t have a spot to display it or anything, so it didn’t seem worth it to me.

$280 of Lego. Ouch, that's a kicker of a price for the full set...

Hoping for Classic theming to go with the existing set but the logo used doesn't fill me with confidence.

Oof. Actual Minifigures would be cool, but it'd kinda suck not to have regular sets. That removes so much of the charm. Was Mario really that popular to warrant a board game approach?

Some people wouldn’t necessarily call this an atrocity.

They would call it Atro-City :V

    Thank you and goodnight.

Well this is exciting news! I would love more official Sonic minifigures. Shame legos are so expensive.

  13. You'd be surprised at how much more expensive Lego can be outside of Europe and North America... Lego here in Brazil can easily go for double what it costs in the US, and, as a poorer country, we also have a much lower average income, so the disparity is even greater. You can get better deals if you wait a little (but not too much, as sets will become rare!), but it's a pretty expensive hobby no matter what.

That being said, I did get the GHZ set for Christmas for a not-so-terrible price. The stock Robotnik build was way too ugly though, so I ordered some extra parts to fix him. If you swap the nose for a studded plate and use curved slopes for the mustache, you end up with a much better Robotnik figure. This is the mod I'm taking about:

As for the new sets, I'm cautiously optimistic. I probably won't get all of them for monetary reasons, but I hope they're good display pieces and not too gimmicky.

We live in a time when it's cheaper and easier to buy drugs than a new lego set

In fairness, Lego has never been cheap. I've been gifted Lego from a young age and the main reason I got as much of it as I did (like, a sizeable 50l tub worth I think) was because my Dad used to constantly scour boot sales picking up small bits here and there for a few quid each. It's only maybe more evident now because since moving into licensed and branded sets they've become a lot higher profile to older markets.

Legos appreciate at approximately 11%/year making them a better investment than the stock market or real estate.

    https://jaysbrickblog.com/news/more-lego-sonic-the-hedgehog-sets-coming-in-august-2023/

First images of the new sets are out, along with confirmation of an August release date.

As far as my own preferences, I'm only really bothered about the minifigs of Tails/Amy/Eggman and the small animals from what I've seen, as I'd love to use them to embellish my IDEAS Lego Sonic set. It'd be really fun for the kids to have some Sonic LEGO to add to their collection, though, so I'm definitely hoping to pick up at least one of the actual sets too for them to play with! Either the one with Sonic/Tails, or the one with Sonic/Amy/Eggman, depending on what budget allows for at the time.

I'm a little saddened they didn't take more cues from the IDEAS set as to how certain badniks could be constructed, though - I know the builds there are a bit fiddly for little hands and were designed more for display, but using a circular plate as the face for Motobug, Buzz Bomber etc. would surely have been OK?

Having said that, it's great to see LEGO have a go at a proper Sonic theme - hopefully these ones sell well so we can get more sets and minifigs in future. I'd love to see LEGO-fied Knuckles, Shadow and Blaze, along with some classic characters...!

Man I didn't expect Sonic LEGO to reference an IDW cover of all things

Isn't that cover a reference to the OVA? Sonic lounging on the beach wearing sunglasses and Tails in the water with his body board?
