Well hang on, it's not exactly used prominently outside of Sonic Adventure 2 - in a lot of cases it's either used late game, or as part of an unlockable thing, or places you might not think to look, like Super Smash Bros..

I don't think it's unreasonable to not know this - even our wiki doesn't list all the known uses (someone should fix that).

 

I remember a comment, don't know where, don't know when (but i'm guessing before 2024, maybe around when team sonic racing was being released?) in a casual conversation online with a fan, johnny mentioned he has not seen a single dime of royalties from sega.
So technically, he has heard about it before all this. (then again, it's my word, from a source i don't even remember)

Does SEGA actually own Sonic? With how many ownership lawsuits they end up in, I would not be surprised if not...

I think SEGA was facing the barrel of a loaded gun until Isao Okawa saved them. I'm just pulling that out my ass from faulty memory. Someone smarter will surely correct.

 

Ah, seems that's another myth I've fallen for. I tried looking for a source on that but sure enough there was nothing to verify it. I guess with the Dreamcast coming to an end with SA2 it would generally be assumed that Sonic and Sega would end with it.

 

I hate that song so I am not sure how to feel about this.

 

Yeah, by January 2001 they had already announced Sonic Advance, on August 2001 they were already hinting that the Battle port was coming. From the January 2004 Nintendo Power Issue with Iizuka it seems Heroes development started in April/May 2002 since he mentions the game was almost 20 months in development by that time.

So it does seem that it's a myth that was around in the internet and in some magazines at the time. Unless there was a brief period where they thought it was game over.
