Oh I never saw that before. I only saw the special stage he had from a few years back. That, and I don't have OS X, so if that version is available on Windows (which it very well could be), I've never seen it anywhere. I have several versions, the latest being 2007 which includes the SK bonus stage.

EDIT: I stand corrected. I just found the special stage.

 

Now that I remember, since the Special Stage used a different resolution, all its graphics will have to be stretched, if he doesn't want them to look thinner than they should.


The same would apply to the title screen... But God, I hope he replaces the PC one with the original.

I don't think SEGA could give an advantage to competitors if they revealed if this was going ahead or not. It would be very nice to tell us, instead of hiding behind their NDAs.
Who can use Sonic (legally) besides them?

 

Hyping and such - they want their own marketing management to deal with it. That said, having posted this topic in the first place was dumb when you consider that factor. In fact, when companies announce the games they plan to release, the games are already quite developed.

People who Sega give explicit permission to use it :P

 

I don't think people wouldn't buy it if they said us if it was going to or not. It's Sonic CD, which is 16 years old, not something unknown.

 

Don't underestimate overhyping. Many games have died because of it. And even releases are very prone to get hurt by it as people will start demanding new features and such, acting as if the company is making a new game or something.

That said, publishers often have template licenses to save time. They have been reviewed by their lawyers extremely carefully to make sure that they don't get in some kind of legal disadvantage by any means, and because of so they are reluctant to make a new contract, especially for individual cases.

So it's most likely just a template contract. Making the assumption that it got greenlit.

 

I have no clue why stuff went down, but I doubt it's competitive advantage they're worried about. Who exactly are they competing against?

I think it's more of a viral thing they're doing myself. But, I don't want to add to speculation, because nobody really knows.
