Just a question, I've noticed MDX files have the ability to be converted to MIDI, as well as have its instrument data ripped to OPM (and hence to TFI or VOPM.) I was wondering if there was a similar utility available for the FMP/PMD standard music files (*.M, *.M2, *.OPI, *.OVI etc.) since they use either YM2203 and YM2610 respectively. Thanks in advance.
All these ripped instruments are, they're basically parameters of a sound constructed using values the chip can read from to map the behavioural output. OPM format is importable to VOPM VSTi. You would naturally use the MDXPG3 utility that comes with VOPM to sort your 128 patch bank, though I would check closely on it as it has a bug on the LFO. (For some reason, on all patches that don't use LFO, it decides to add unwanted vibrato.) Likewise, I believe the TFI format that's available from conversion also works as single patches importable in TFM Music Maker... (Does it support PSG/DAC or MIDI Import yet? How are some of you guys getting DAC on your custom VGMs?) As my original post stands, I'm curious since the FMP/PMD format of music, while similar to MDX, it's superior and sounds closer to the YM2612 in my opinion.
If anyone's interested, someone at 2ch posted links to the entire FMP/PMD and MDX libraries from MDXOnline (now offline). http://www.badongo.com/file/11866945 (MDX Complete, 115MB) http://www.savefile.com/files/1758669 (FMP/PMD Complete, 37MB) Just if anyone's wondering, both formats are similar in nature. MDX = NEC X68K (YM2413, 11kHz PCM?) FMP/PMD = PC-88/PC-98 I believe. (YM2203/YM2608, 11-22kHz PCM I think. Higher quality.) For the players, you can get them by simply search on google.
