(might delete this later) Some months ago, a channel by the name of "TOP RETRO GAME MUSIC" uploaded some tracks from the Sonic 1&2 soundtracks with audio quality I have never seen before. I know this because I've seen many recreations of the OST while looking for these specific uploads on YouTube, and none of them quite matched the level of quality of the ones I've been looking for. Unfortunatly, it seems that both the channel and all of the uploads were removed from YouTube. I've tried to track down who could have been behind that channel, or if there were any reuploads somewhere, but it seems unlikely since every video I watched at the time was still under 100 views. Here are some links I found using WaybackMachine: https://web.archive.org/web/20230519150606/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= DGvt81MTJsQ (Title: Sonic 2 - Hidden Palace Zone (High Quality Music) REMASTERED RESTORED 2023 HQ) https://web.archive.org/web/20230515180157/https://www.youtube.com/@topretrogamemusic2382 Is there any way to find more information on these uploads?
I'm familiar with the official releases. The uploads I'm talking about were either incredibly accurate fanmade recreations from scratch, or used some other audio-enhancing software I don't know. I wish I could be more specific but I don't really know what to say other than it was like comparing the original 1991 Genesis tracks with the 2013 mobile release, except they were somehow even more "clean", if that's the right word.
Hearing it now I think it does sound a bit similar, though it would help a lot if there was a comparison of a track with/without that filter.
Oh, then just play the games' sound tests through the Kega Fusion emulator, and mess around with a equalizer to add more treble. That's how sonickai's OST videos were made IIRC
Side note: Any time I see "remastered" and/or "HQ" on any audio whatsoever, I skip over it because most of the time I think it sounds worse; plus, you can't "remaster" anything with the already-been-mastered audio! Anyway, I have no idea. I had problems with your links. Could just be my phone.
Finally, I feel less alone, and it also feels great to be on the same page with someone extremely expert about music such as you, most people don't get what we're talking about.
