IDW Megathread

  1. I guess, but the effect being temporary makes it feel less so. Like Eggman could keep him running to exhaustion, then he'd have minutes left.

I love the comics and am definitely enjoying following them along, but it's hard to talk about their contents. Following IDW's Transformers MTMTE a few years back burnt me out on discussing plot (great at first then became nothing but Shocking Twists And Such), and I'm not exactly sure yelling "Tangle is a lesbian and I love her" every time she's on the page would really provide anything meaningful for discussion. Nonetheless, I'll make an effort!

Definitely wondering how he was going to be infected and yet still remain the protagonist, so I guess this solution works out. He was never realistically going to turn in the first issue he got it and keep him out of the spotlight; that's probably going to remain a threat driving the story forward for as long as possible, presumably coming to a head towards the end of the plotline some ways out.

    Potential spoiler for future issues:

Solicits suggest a "powerful ally" will be turned, in an issue where Sonic's partnered with Omega. Sounds like Shadow's probably getting turned...

I'm very curious how you've gleaned sexual orientation from a relatively new character that doesn't talk or socialize much at all. She has a mysterious past, but no proof of any romantic relationship, from what I've read.

Are you mixing up Tangle with Whisper? Tangle has been plenty talkative in her appearances so far. Also, have you seen the way she looks at Blaze? There's no way that girl's just enamored by Cool Fiery Powers.

    Yes I did. Oops.

As for actual Tangle potentially crushing on Blaze, she just seems excitable about everything she was thrust into after meeting Sonic. The offshoot comic shows more of that. Craving danger and adventure doesn't necessarily mean that she's into that kind of spelunking.

Doesn't really mean it's an invalid read of the character, though.

I don't remember Tangle reacting differently to male or female characters, but I'm far from a specialist on the matter, so...
In any case, she's definitely one of my favorite character from the comic. She was great in the annual too.

I just crawled through the hashtag to find the first recentish mention (since it was used to also reference a political thing around May), and it seems like the original tweets were outright deleted. From what I can gather, it seems that one twitter user started ranting about Ian Flynn, Ian blocked them after they tagged him a few times, and it snowballed from there. I'm not sure what it was about exactly, but the tweets are probably archived somewhere.

Honestly, seems like it's one guy or a few having a huge grudge towards Flynn for his opinion on certain things and/or how he writes the comics and got blocked because of it. One of them even defends Penders from the looks of it.
So, doesn't look like anything major. Most of the hashtag comes from one guy anyway.

It's a bunch of people gathering around a noun-gate and trying to cause a stink over nothing. The less attention it gets, the better.

There's also something about Ian doxxing a cancer survivor?

Going by a DA journal and Ian Flynn himself, it sounds like the guy who claimed that also made a "parody" Twitter account of Flynn (before he joined Twitter) to make fun of him and his writing, but also took it too far involving his wife, so...yeah.
I do agree with MyKonosFan though. Might be best to move on.

From a quick scan through, it sounds like Ian just blocked someone who was being a bit of an ass.

Pretty standard day on Twitter if you ask me. :v:

Preview for 18 is out. Would get a link, but I'm currently on mobile.

Only one panel with him in it, but looks like Gemerl's Shard-import personality is gone again and he just speaks like Gamma. Not gonna lie, that's a little bit of a disappointment - especially with all the delays for this issue.

LOVE Eggman and Starline's dynamic, though.Literally announcing the evil scheme over the intercom because it's been proven unstoppable so far!

Gemerl being a basic robot is disappointing. He's just Omega without oillust. But I guess Ian is writing the characters closer to the games, and Gemerl never got a personality in Advance 3. Oh well.

Sideling more tertiary characters was expected. Starline being disheartened by Eggman's hubris first-hand is a nice touch. Villan worship scorned will be something nice to play with later on.

  18. Just seeing Gemerl at all is great. I always thought he was badass, and was sad that he never reappeared.

I caught up on the IDW issues 15 -18 yesterday, plus the annual.

The current arc has gone too overly serious and dramatic way too quickly. Eggman's not got any of his affable, goofy qualities. The plot line with the metal virus is really overplayed. It's a really good idea and the kind of thing I would LOVE to see in the games... On paper. The execution is just so bleak. It's basically been three issues countless background characters essentially dying (plus anyone who's name begins with a "Ch" appears to be doomed). The part where Vector abandoned that townsperson to "die" because she was infected was awkward. Too sudden, too serious, very incongruous.

I'm liking the comics but I'm very fed up with the whole "its a war" angle. Its picking up from Forces, obviously. But it's also channelling the Freedom Fighters and Archie comics in a way that I find dull. I really wish we could see more Adventures, instead of Sonic running from town to town to check on all the happy villagers after the war.

Eggman doesn't feel like Eggman yet, apart from the basic fact that he's already losing control of the new power he's using (yawn). And Starline hasn't done much except gush over Eggman. So much for them being partners in crime. I was hoping that Starline would be a good ally for Eggman, but it looks like he'll instead be working for himself after he inevitably betrays Eggman.

  20. Nah, I knew from issue 13 or so that Starline would betray Eggman. He showcased far too much ambition to not.

I will say, though, assuming they stick with 12 issue arcs like the first one, that does mean this one's halfway over.
