Quick, someone redraw it less anime style and more Disney style :v:

  2. Sure, he could have been the guy who bullied Max in school that later turned out to be a total homo. + - at least he would be in the fanfiction

That's far too low-definition, even for 1981. I mean, look at this in 1980:

    That's an arcade game.

An Atari 2600 had a maximum resolution of 192x160.

A Sonic game would need an even lower resolution than that to get a good framerate though.

@Atari Sonic: Is that a blue penis?

@Animu Sonic: He looks like Brave Fencer Musashi. Hell, I don't care. If they made a Sonic game where everybody wears clothes, listens to ?Pods, fights with samurai lightsabers, and looked like that, my first thought would go to "Okay, but is the game awesome?" Nothing more, nothing less.

It looks pretty cool, is what I'm saying. I think Solaris Paradox put it best: "It looks like what would happen if Ninja Theory took Sonic and reimagined him."

  7. When talking about video resolution, width usually comes first, and then height, so it's 160x192. Yes, there's more vertical detail than horizontal, but the pixels are very wide, so the final aspect ratio looks OK.

I take it you don't know much about programming the Atari 2600? Drawing more detailed objects doesn't slow down the game logic, because the CPU time is clearly divided between drawing the screen and running the game logic, one doesn't spill into the other. Most older games had blocky graphics because there wasn't much ROM available for more detailed ones, but there surely is enough CPU time to do much better than your mock-up.

Take a look at these Sonic sprites I made for the 2600 a while back. Those are perfectly possible on the 2600, provided that the ROM is sufficiently large (32KB should be OK for a game with 3 Zones). The levels would have to look pretty blocky, and slopes would be very scarce, which is why I decided not to continue with this project for now, but they would surely look better than giant lime green rectangles. So I have to agree that for 1981 standards, you mock-up looks very outdated, even for the 2600.

    Hey, giant green rectangles rock.

And there were high-profile titles released up until the end of the console's lifespan which looked worse. It was a weird machine to program for. Different people got very different mileage out of it.

    A secret. >:3
It needs to look more modern than that...

Add a green pixel for the eye. :specialed:

    I'm pretty sure it's a joke.

  11. How would I redesign Sonic? Hm, I think Mercury already gave the answer.

Well, the edit of the eyeshine isn't too good, but I'd agree 100% percent with him at the eyeshine and the blue eyes, they fit much like Sonic.

I got this from Mercury's most recent post in his blog, about Sonic's eyes and how much pollemical discussion it has generated.

Edit: Oh yeah, I think his quills should be shorter. I haven't edit the quills because it demands a bit more of skill.

Oh no you didn't, Tails was always awsome, hell in Sonic 3, he made Sonics presence completely pointless lol

    Omochao rocks too!

    Want some chocolate?

  13. Tokumaru, those sprites look awesome. It's unfortunate you've decided to not continue with the project. :(

Naw, Tails can't go super in Sonic 3. In Sonic 3 & Knuckles he still needs 14 emeralds to do it.

I want to see more of that Tails in future mainstream Sonic games.

  19. It's a shame that SEGA doesn't how to make profit of their Sonic characters anymore. Man, they're almost discarding Tails and Knuckles, the ORIGINAL ONES OF THE TEAM! Just like they discarded Mighty, Ray, Fang, Bark and Bean...
