How would you redesign Sonic the Hedgehog?

Honestly, I'd also be fine with something like this, if they wanted to go in a really, really drastically different aesthetic direction -

Furry Adventure DX: Homosexual cut

 

That's actually not too bad. I really like Amy's design in that pic, it really reminds me of her "dolly" look back then. Sonic is definitely too cutesy though.

 

That picture is a great design for Amy at least. It's a mix of the good parts from the new and old design (I never liked the old Amy design. The outfit was so strange). It looks kind of like how I'd imagine modern Amy in the Sonic CD intro

 

I praise the XENU you are not part of a designing team. I'm all in for dark re-imagining and all, but jeez, this thing is ugly.

 

Here are the designs I'd like the characters to have :



Sonic : short quills and legs, a shade of blue between royal and light, reflections on his head and his shoes, determined stare with brown eyes, to show that his goal in life is to defeat Robotnik to protect his friends, and of course to always go forward by running.

Tails : he must be shorter than Sonic, as he is several years younger than him (and with the modern designs, there are moments when I don't have this impression). Innocent brown eyes and smile, and a most brownish orange than what he has now. And if it could be possible, I'd make him forget about mechanics, just let him know how to replace a wheel on a plane but no more... Also, he has soles under his shoes when Sonic doesn't.



Super Sonic : green eyes, quills up, like the Genesis version. It's in this form that I'd like him to have this slightly arrogant personnality, and not all the time like this is currently the case. But also, he must have an angry stare, because he becomes like this when Robotnik gets on his nerves for good.

Metal Sonic : Hmm... metallic blue, glowing red evil eyes of a killer, the perfect tool for Robotnik to destroy his enemy, but I'd like him to have some contemptuous manners in his personnality, like it was the case in Sonic CD while he was waiting for Sonic to start the race against him. He must not be a metallic zombie waiting for orders. Like Sonic he believe he is the fastest thing alive but in his case it's the most important thing in his life, that's why he should be comtemptuous about it.

 

It may not be pretty, but fuck at least it's not like all these other fucks who think they're brilliant character designers because they just took Classic Sonic and did some minor bullshit to it.

Mad he might be, but for the most part it's true, as much as I think StricNYN3's stuff might be some of the best artwork of the classic Sonic design I've seen in a long while. Put some effort forth, guys.

 

Thalia's Sonic design would work great for another character.

 

Ditch the circular highlights. They're really distracting and unnatural. And I don't mean use a different shape, as the white highlights are totally unnecessary. Otherwise it's good but doesn't really qualify as a redesign.

 

You're totally right, they are not redesigns, they're the designs I want them to have in the video games, so their main specifications have already been seen in the past. I don't want the characters to become completely different, I'd just like them to be a combination of the good things they had among their several past designs. Thanks for the criticism.

 

Well I think it looks good, but more of a character designed for comics rather than one for games, I mean if sonic never existed and then there was some stips about this character, if probably buy it lol

don't quite understand the white stripe in his quils though :/

 

For whatever reason, I can't help but find anything that gives Sonic visible musculature like that a bit unsettling.

I don't know why, but I get a bit of a Crash Bandicoot vibe from this. Not quite certain that it'll work in a Sonic style game, but it isn't bad.

 

It says older, not old. Plus, nobody's expecting you to read the filename. Regardless, it's a neat picture. Another one of those clever takes on making Sonic look completely different. I'd hate to see that in a game, EVER, but it's cool just as a piece of fanart.

 

I don't know why, but it makes me think of Sly Racoon more than Crash Bandicoot.

 

For me, when it comes to Sonic and friends design, all I can think of is changing their coloring and making them more textured. Maybe a few other things, like making Sonic more furry, but that's all. I can't understand why so many fans want him to go back to his original designs.
