How do you get it up?

What's your button of choice to make Sonic hop along in the Genesis games?

Looking at the results of this poll has actually helped me quite a bit, and saved me a bit of trouble. Only problem now being that I might have to work around a few things.

There should be something here to help you with that. They use USB, so it should work on any computer that supports USB.

I can get it up without any additional "how-to"s.

  5. B, which makes debug mode rather awkward at times.

Cee. Oddly enough, I use the same button config as Hez for emulators, aswell as SRB2.

Way back when on my Genesis, I used C. But nowadays, my C button has gone ilresponsive, and needs a good hammering down to work. I now use B instead, A's always seemed a little ilresponsive on every controller I've held for whatever reason. On ROMs, I use D (A=A, S=B, D=C).

I use the X button. My Genesis is busted. On emulators I use D and on Genesis I used B.

    C. Whatever I'm with a real system or an emu: I still have my Genesis controller plugged into the LPT1 port (and using NTPad XP).

  10. I need to see that

Anyway B all the way for me, C if I am playing Sonic 3D

When playing on the computer: A
When playing on my Genesis: C (so I voted for this)

    I don't use B for either since it's the deBug button. :)

  14. Ah, it seems that the majority of people use the same button that I do!

However, my reason for using "C" is much different.
A long time ago, before I knew about debug mode, my cousin and I were playing Sonic & Knuckles using the first controller that I ever had. The controller had already taken some abuse (...I was violent back then, man), so the wire from the controller was coming loose. Eventually, A and B stopped working, so we started using "C" (I think that I used "B" before then...). As time passed, and we cleared more zones, "C" became natural for me. I remember that the farthest that we reached was Lava Reef Act 2, and at that point we had to hold the controller wires just to get a signal! (They were probably broken inside of the casing or something). We didn't make it past there because the controller stopped working entirely, and we decided that quitting was better than looking for one of my other controllers (I think that I had only two others at that time, but I'm not sure anymore).

Well, after that multi-hour session (I think it was multi-hour, anyways; it seemed like a long time to me back then...), I continued to use "C." This worked very well when I learned about debug mode! As for playing on PC/emulators? Well...I have a gamepad that has a Genesis-like d-pad, L, R, two analog sticks, and the equivalents of A-C and X-Z. It feels a bit more like a PS2 controller than a Genesis controller, but it's not that big of a change since the buttons are in the same place. Therefore, I continue to use "C." It takes some getting used to having to press the right analog stick in for "start," though...but on the other hand, it fits perfectly with my SNES emulation control scheme (right analog stick is pushed in for start, left one for select).

Yeah A or B here, you have to reach out to press C, it doesn't feel comfortable to me. Then again I do have fat hands ^_^

    I second this motion.

C button. Just a coincidence that it was also jump in Debug Mode.
