FUCK. I missed it. Does anyone have an extra copy they would like to sell or trade for last year's FCBD?
Why don't you just ask a local shop if they still have a copy? I'm sure not all of them were given away and if your willing to pay they can probably help you. Otherwise, keep an eye on <a href="http://shop.ebay.com/I.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=sonic+the+hedgehog+free+comic+book+day&_sacat=See-All-Categories" target="_blank">ebay</a>?
Same here. Miles has been super busy (And super lazy, I've been bugging him a lot lately). At least F4E is still uploading comic scans on a regular basis.
That all depends on where you draw the line between "amateur" and "professional". I mean, what is professional? The dictionary defines it as "following an occupation for gain". By that definition, the moment he was hired, he became a professional. Do not pretend that a number of comic book writers did not, at one point, write fanfiction. When you're a fan of a particular character or universe and you view your own personal strength as that of writing, the two inevitably collide. And if Ian's doing a better job than the writer(s) to come before him, who cares where he came from? And Ian most certainly is doing a better job; Penders in particular had a lot of bad habits - he was far more "nerdy" than Ian is, constantly slipping in references to stuff like Star Trek, etc. He also absolutely loved starting big, long, "epic" story arcs and then completely forgetting to finish them (and then when he did get forced in to finish them, well, uh...). Ian's story is a lot lighter and more playful - easier to digest. Maybe lacking depth, but given how scattershot Penders was, Ian's approach is cleaner and better. The only problem I really remember having when I was reading Ian's stuff is that he had a really bad habit of building up climaxes that sort of fizzle out in the end.
I was trying to avoid that because it sounds like he wants a physical copy. but yeah theres allways that...
It's a rarity that I actually agree 100% with anything anyone else says on teh fora, so it behooves me to Quote For Truth this. I write fanfic, and - not to be a complete faggot, BUT - I'm a damn sight better at arranging dem purty wordz than a nonzero number of so called "professional" authors I've read. The only difference between a fanfic author and a 'real' author is that the former isn't shameless enough to grub money for their literary vomit. Well, that and MARY SUES EVERYWHERE.
I've read a lot of shitty fanfiction in my day, but I've also read the occasional really, really good fanfiction. It's not about whether you write fanfiction, it's whether or not you can write well. Characterizing fanfic writers as terrible on principle is unfair... not wrong enough that it isn't a safe bet, but not right enough to completely write someone off over, either.
Pretty much what's been said. Other comic book series have ran for so long that the original writers have died, retired, or moved on to other projects. The franchises are kept alive with stories by other people who liked the original characters, know the world, and want to leave their own mark on it (or want the cash/hate it and want to reinvent it, etc). Happens with games, films and other forms of entertainment. They're running on officially-sanctioned fan fiction. And the fact that it's official does not always indicate quality.
I have nothing against what you said. However, can you honestly look at the current universe arc and say he's being professional and not just inserting his own fanfic fantasies in it? The whole thing is based on Other M and this is only a culmination of what he's been doing since he was approved on the boards. Sally was back in the castle and Sonic moving on from that romance? Ian fixes it by reeling her in without much of a reason and not resolving her insecurity issues, making Sonic continue pursuing her for no other reason either. Sally was now third in the succession line? Just make Elias' kid adopted and make him not want to have children of his own, that sorts it out. Then all the AOSTH references, all the gliches suddenly making their way into comic. That's what he likes and while I have nothing against many of them, it's still not writing for Sonic. Many times, he's writing for himself. Maybe not as obnoxiously as Penders, but he's still doing it. That's tbe problem I have with fanfic writers and that's the problem I have with Flynn (and Penders for that matter). There was no need to answer to something I wrote one year ago though.
That reminds me the super-powered Gohan from the Buu Saga of DBZ. He goes Super Saiyan, then Super Saiyan 2, and then he gets this upgrade and suddenly a barely-altered version of his normal form makes all of that look like lunchmoney.
Heh thats the funny thing about Ultra, its a state after super mode according to issue #71. could be past hyper mode since he was using a super emerald at the time to transform into ultra and not power rings. Glad they brought ultra back though I want to see a current version of his elemental forms as well. Anyways, lets let the sonic comic discussion die for a bit or continue discussion at the comic topic. anybody pick up any other comics? I really liked the darkness II prelude comic.
