Help Getting a Sound Effect Out of Sonic 3

    Remember that fan? Remember the sound it makes? I want that sound and I'm having some trouble getting it. It should be simple enough just go to the sound test screen and grab it right? Not really, the trouble is the sound loops in game and I need the sound to loop for it to be useful. I tried opening my favorite audio editing software audition and figuring out how it loops but I just can't get it to loop right I think the sound isn't complete or something. So basically I need this sound and the looped part too. Which means I can only get it in game in Hydrocity itself. The trouble is the music plays interfering with in game recording and I having absolutely no hacking experience have no idea how to turn off the music within the level. So I was hopping someone here would be so kind as to either send me the sound effect with a few loops or send me a rom with Hydrocity Act 1's music turned off. Thanks in advance.
     
  2. You can use the PAR code 00624C:6002 to prevent level music from playing.

    Edit: That code is for Sonic 3 & Knuckles, not Sonic 3 alone.

    Out of interest, isn't there a way to directly extract the audio of the SFX?

    Can't you make it loop in the sound test by pressing C repeatedly, before it ends playing?

    It's not the fact it loops, it's the way it loops, which is difficult to get right exactly right.

    Is there a code to turn off the ENTIRE music soundtrack in S3&K? I've really been wanting to play the game without music on, and just the sound effects (I don't hate it or anything, I just wanna make a S3&K video series with custom/arranged embed for each act, and I need the music off).

    I believe that code will turn off the soundtrack, provided it's activated. Not sure, though!

    Try 001358:4E75 (disables the music playing subroutine).

    Oh. Then I don't get why was he asking for a way to turn the soundtrack off, seeing as he will get the exact same sound.

    Because then he can go to that point in the level and record the sound effect the fan makes, complete with precise looping, without the background music there too.
