Hey guys—it's recently come to my attention that despite nearly 15 years, there are still Mega Drive games which haven't been dumped—and we're not talking prototypes here. These are specific-region games, which are of particular interest for learning adaptive differences and finding altered/prototype content—think the difference between Sonic 1 (JUE) and Sonic 1 (J). The good news is that you can help complete this list by checking through your own library to see if you have these games and volunteering to have them dumped. You will receive your cartridges back afterwards and the warm, fuzzy feeling of knowing you helped contribute to the Sega scene. EUROPE UNDUMPED/BAD DUMPED - Ecco Jr. (specifically not AU) - ESWAT - Hook - Pac-Panic - Phantasy Star IV - Pink Goes to Hollywood - Shining Force - World Championship Soccer II - 32X BIOS - Multi-Mega EU BIOS - Motherbase (32X) JAPAN UNDUMPED/BAD DUMPED - Awesome Possum Kicks Dr. Machino's Butt! - Captain Lang - Davis Cup Tennis - FIFA International Soccer - Flicky - Marble Madness - Road Rash - Tom and Jerry: Frantic Antics Let me know if you have one of these carts, and I'll get you hooked up with a trusted dumper.
I was about to say that I've never seen it around, then I just checked up Wiki and apparently the only PAL version was the one released in Australia. While I know wiki's aren't 100% right, I feel quite confident that a European one doesn't exist.
Captain Planet and the Planeteers was not an official release in Japan — it's either unlicensed or doesn't exist at all. Flicky JP was Game Toshokan/SegaNet/Meganet exclusive; we'll have to go back to where the other such games were dumped and see. There was also a Columns on that service but no clue if there's a difference and there's a 50%+ chance the compilations have the retail version... There's a bunch of undumped unlicensed games as well but I don't know them all... And there are possible alternate revisions of other games...
Yeah Sega Retro (was) wrong - there is no EU version of Ecco Jr. (as far as I'm aware). Might be worth checking which version is uploaded to the Wii's Virtual Console though.
I checked the stuff on the list that was released on VC and the only one with a different rom was Phantasy Star 4 EU. I released the rom image of that some time a go in my VC Patches topic. Maybe you can push that. Also, drx has a final rom archive that might possibly have some stuff you're looking for. EDIT: Actually aaaaaaaaaaaaaa I checked Shining Force EU and that has a different rom too. I guess you want it uploaded? EDIT2: Here are the download links: Shining Force PAL Phantasy Star IV PAL (with patched rom) I don't know if you can push these since they didn't exactly come from carts, but I'm willing to bet that they came from a final rom archive like the one drx has.
We should at least dump Phantasy Star IV and compare that ROM to this one first... Also TIL no-intro's site (not the group itself) IS recording Virtual Console releases, as part of the custom DAT on Wii DLC.
(what about all the Brazillian/Korean/Mainland asia games can't possibly say they're all repackaged US/EU/JP carts when we don't even know how many there are)
Does this exist? If so, it's not dumped... EDIT Is there nay possibliity of getting a master list of TecToy's games? I looked on their site and they don't seem to have one...
http://segaretro.org/Talk:Tectoy note that that's a list of games they've published. I honestly couldn't tell you which ones they had a hand in in translating or tweaking. Yes. I know when it started and I know when it was dropped, but nothing else.
Actually meh — I've been maintaining a list of undumped and incorrectly dumped games on the Sega Retro wiki (including the recent homebrew — you probably won't want to dump that, or at least not say that you have; they're on the list for now solely as matter of fact). Here is the list. I'll be maintaining this as time goes on, so keep on the lookout. One of my other projects right now is also to figure out what Game Gear games are incorrectly named in the no-intro ROM set, which should lead to an undumped Game Gear list — but as the page says, if anyone has a collection of US Game Gear games you'd be willing to donate to SMS Power! to dump, please do
These are all the 86 games that come with the Mega Drive 3 here in Brazil (or at least those listed in Tec Toy's site). I can't be arsed to clean up this list. I also may list other game lists if anyone's interested. EDIT:Oh wow, I didn't read the post just above mine. But still.
I've have thought you'd want scans of the back of US Game Gear boxes too just so we can add more confusion to Sega's genre rating system, as evidenced here http://segaretro.org/File:Devilish_GG_US_Box_Back.jpg SoA thinks it's a puzzle game, SoJ thinks it's an action game! :v:
Oh yes I had forgotten about scans :P Though maybe that should go in a separate topic...? Noted the Devilish thing.
A quick search shows that it both exists and doesn't- at first the distributor, ECOFILMES, just imported the Japanese game cartridge and put it in a new box, with a disclaimer saying that the game came with a free region converter that you'd get on the shop you bought the game from. When the French version was made, ECOFILMES removed the disclaimer and started importing that one. So yeah, it's the JP and FR versions.
There is apparently a PAL version of Ecco Jr. on Ebay, but it is £499.99 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ECCO-JR-SEGA-MEGADRIVE-MINT-CONDITION-MEGA-DRIVE-/110761030752?pt=UK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS&hash=item19c9df3460 I also have the PAL version of Pac-Panic that I'd be more than happy to post out.
