    I DONE MAKED GAMES.
Okay, for starters I've got to state; my apparent dyslexia and otherwise difficulty with the written language is starting to get the better of me; I desperately want to get custom firmware on my PSP slim, but since there's the risk of bricking the thing involved, I daren't even attempt it, since I don't really find any of the instructions I've found (though google) so clear.

I am therefore asking to be treated like an idiot with regards this, heh.

Basically, if anybody here knows the ins and outs, I wouldn't mind complete newbie instructions (That said, I'm no Windows newbie, just all the jargon and things relating to modding PSPs; I've only had mine since Christmas), preferably step-by-step with notes as to what I should specifically avoid as as to not brick it.

    Stuff I know already;
    - What a Pandora's battery is. Though no real fine details.
    - All the usual out-of-the-box functions of my PSP Slim.
    - This is it. I'm quite lame, really XD

I thank you in advance, though it's not such a biggie if this topic goes by unanswered.

Unless you want to do the (occasionally explosious) Pandora's Battery method, we'll need to know your firmware.

If you have relatively new firmware, you'll need to pick up a copy of Lumines. Once you've got that, post and we'll continue.

What Bibbin said, but the experience, provided you can follow instructions, is usually relatively painless - I've had a PSP since UK launch and it's had nothing but custom FW ever since 3.03OE.

    Wait, what?

Did you guys read the topic title? It says PSP slim. You can not softmod a PSP slim with Lumines, GTA, or whatever—you need the Pandora battery. Firmware does not matter.

What I gather from the general jist of the situation is that you need the battery, and you need to format your memory stick with the relevant Pandora files. One thing you don't have to worry about, however, is bricking your PSP—the Pandora battery doubles as an unbricker, so if you mess up, you can always try again.

Ah yeah, forgot the Slim can't do the Lumines exploit.

Well, then you'll need to make yourself a Pandora's battery, and format it with the Magic Stick thingy formatter. I don't have a link, but that's fairly easy to find.

I also think you'll need the 1.5 firmware, unless I am mistaken?

The way I see it you have 3 options:
    1. Pandora's Battery, find a guy with 1.5 or custom to make it, or do the I-Do-Not-Care-About-Explosions way and make it by moding a battery.
    2. Buy an old 1.5 PSP and upgrade to custom firmware (about $200+ is needed for this method)
    3. Just don't do it, If you want an emulator to play Sonic games on it is better to just get the Genesis Collection, It also has Rinstar!
Edit: You can find all this stuff on Google...

    Waiting for my PS3.
If you can spare the $25, you can get a TOOL Battery from Codejunkies and use the TOTAL Newbies Easy Installer to make the necessary files on your PSP. That's probably the safest way to go, unless, of course, you can convince someone with a hacked PSP to do it for you.

This I haven't seen mentioned, else I would have tried (And not posted here like an idiot, hahahah). Can anyone back up this statement?

Yes; the pandora's battery is *the* way to unbrick a PSP, and to my knowledge nobody has found it not to unbrick their PSP when the process was carried out correctly. Even if you don't do it properly, you can't possibly make it worse; just try again and perhaps replace the files on your memory stick that are required.

That's correct, it can undo any fuckups you make. And Tweaker, I also did a blank on the Slim part. =P Yeah, you'll need a Pandora.

Just out of curiosity, are the batteries used in the slim PSP the same as the batteries used in the fat PSP?

No, they're slightly smaller but due to the reduced power requirements you get the same play out of it.

Actually, if you use a regular PSP battery you can buy a kit for the Slim to fit the larger battery in. Makes it stick out a bit at the back but it's all moulded properly - and because it's a bigger battery, a Slim can get more hours out of it than a regular PSP.

  13. grap needs psp halps as well I don't wanna make a new topic though

-can't upgrade to 3.90m33 according to the error I get and google the guy who owned this previously fucked over the nand flash or something
-currently running 3.71m33-4 (upgraded from m33-2)
    -can't get picodrive to run

  14. I just made a couple of Pandora's Batteries. If you can order me a battery and a tiny memory card, or send me the money for it, I'd be glad to do it for you. I've been doing this shit since the 2.71 exploit. Hell, I have the first version of GTA. :P

  15. I've got a Pandora battery. Came with. I guess that's why the guy that sold it to me said it didn't turn on. What do I do now? =P

You, erm... buy a regular battery? I would have thought that'd be obvious.

Nope. If you got an AC Adapter with it, just plug it in to the wall. What you'll need is a memory stick to make into a "pandora's key." There's applications out there that can convert a battery between factory mode and commercial mode. That's how I was able to mod my friend's PSP without a second battery.

  18. ...

Getting a Pandora's battery is apparently the first step in getting closer to solving these issues:

You already HAVE a pandora battery, like I told you before in the IRC channel. IIRC, the PSP flasher programs won't work unless you have an actual battery inserted, unless you finally went and got one of those.

If your NAND flash is fucked due to a physical anomaly, then you need to get a new PSP. If it's simply due to some corrupted files, then just set up a pandora key for your battery and reflash the whole firmware. If that doesn't work, then I have no idea what the hell is wrong. I've never had these issues.

I tried making my own battery, a friend of mine's PSP wasn't working so he gave me his 2nd battery. I had slowly been cutting the case open, I tried to pull it apart following the instructions on some site, and then there was a spark of death. So I decided I'm going to hold off on anything with my PSP until I get the money to order a tool battery or can get someone to sell me one that'd take cash. Oh well I had never done any kind of hardware mod like this before, and I wasn't too upset, I just saw it as a learning experience.
