I think it would be amazing! Specially used in the way Matwek have said. I also like the idea "to get a WTF moment from the player when you finally break off the face and then this happens below". Those ideas are not particularly creatives, but they have some charm and they respect the retro spirit. Being too much creatives will put us out of the project. Don't we want to create a game in the old way? We don't want to make a new Sonic, totally different than the first of ones. So we have to drew inspiration from other games, we don't have to invent all the pieces. (I suppose)
Im not too keen on it being a boss but I have no specific objections (at the moment) to it being used in a cut-scene like I mentioned. At the very most something like this should only really be used once within the game otherwise things get out of hand and the whole thing is full of in jokes and references to old games. Also being creative won't distact us from our current goals by any means. The whole point of the project is to get as creative as we can whilst still staying within the restrictions and current aims we set ourselves, thats what seperates the good work from the bad.
Why not? Because it's fun? It's a game, it's supposed to be entertaining. It's probably at the most going to be a boss at the beginning of the game, it's certainly not a regular bad guy. Or maybe a sub boss. I think the trouble with many of the new games is that they try to be very serious, this is especially true of the newer 3d titles (werewolves, swords, generic robots rather than animal or insect ones, humans, love stories with aforementioned humans... and so on). While I love Sonic as much as the next person I will be honest and say that they are games aimed towards children mostly and I don't think it would harm the project if the game was something anybody could pick up and enjoy. I'm not saying we make a kiddie game but we should at least give the game the charm and character that the old games have and this boss has charm and character by the bucket load.

Because that wouldn't fit with the boss themes of previous Sonics, which always tried to innovate. Making this a normal boss would scream fangame. Now, if it was something in the lines of Sky Sanctuary, where you face the most recognizeable enemies from the previous games before facing the real boss...

This. Also, we should at least tweak him a little to make it look more detailed than the original Motobug or something.
It's actually quite an awesome idea, it should be like what they did in the Adventure series, have a chase like 3/4 of the way through the first level.
Hello people, didn't I already state: This would just be a reused idea. I've already added a giant motobug boss to SSD months ago.
From what everyone has been suggesting so far, I'm pretty sure this is going to be a mid boss, not a real boss.
I can't find any screenshots of this. :S Also, who cares... EVERYONE has a Sonic 2 Spindash in Sonic 1 these days. Besides, it's not really a reused idea unless you have the exact same concept of Sonic being chased.
Hmm, perhaps the motobug could fall down the bridge as suggested, and Robotnik could get some of its pieces to assemble an original (and more challenging) mid-boss at the end of the act? :v:
Ok, this is SO totally not an honest to God submission. This is just to illustrate the point. Something really should be done to show that it's not just an up-scaled motobug. So how about some kind of big big diesel exhaust pipe belching out black smoke, mean eyebrows, spikes and maybe mounted rocket pods? Not only would serve to differentiate from regular motobugs (aside from the size of course) but it would really look like it really would love nothing more than to freaking smear you across the ground. Someone with better pixel pushing power should try it, my lack of skillz makes me weep.
End of Act 1 - Mid-boss not related in any way to the Giant Motobug End of Act 2 - Giant Motobug falls from above and starts to chase Sonic. This may or may not be a boss fight (depending if it falls in the bridge gap automatically or after a set amount of hits) End of Act 3 - Giant Motobug rises from the sea, but since it is almost completely destroyed it breaks apart as soon as it stops. Then the face explode revealing Eggman, and the true boss fight starts. This Egg-Mobile may use the Motobug claws as a weapon (in the original the claws were too little to serve any purpose, but if they are 4 times bigger they could provide a challenge, and a boss like this never appeared so it won't be only a reused bigger enemy)
Eh, I'd rather see the motobug parts get re-used as the majority of Nack's final weapon. I mean, it plays right into my suggestion that Nack's final weapon be an insane mashup of parts from previous mini-bosses. Having the motobug at the end of two acts in a row strikes me as a bit too much.
