I'm not sure what you mean. Or maybe I was unclear, so I'll put it another way. There's no reason for Nvidia and AMD to consider any kind of price cuts to keep moving units as long as miners are willing to pay top dollar for cards. If they increased production to be ahead of demand, they'll put themselves in a position where they are more likely to have to cut costs sooner rather than later in order to offload the units that aren't being snapped up. It's better for them to keep the current pace going and waiting for the demand to slide, rather than trying to meet the demand. And the demand won't slide for as long as mining is a big thing. Whatever markup retailers and resellers are applying is irrelevant to Nvidia and AMD here. AMD has slightly more incentive than Nvidia does to start lowering prices, I think, but not by a whole lot.
Welp -- since I last made this topic. cards seem to be coming back down. Now I'm debating on picking up a 1060 at their current low(er) prices, or waiting some more. Any thoughts?
Honestly, I'd spend the extra bit of cash and get the 1070 (especially now that you've mentioned you have a 4K monitor). The 1070 isn't too much more expensive than the 1060, but the performance gain is great. It's also voted the best bang for your buck.
Supposedly the new cards will be coming out in July. Its been 2 years since the 1000 series were released. Its likely you'll be able to pay less for something that is faster and consume less power.
Can confirm, have a 1070 and the performance increase over my mate's 1060 is noticeable. Worth the difference in price, I'd say. This card is great and crushes pretty much anything - I am playing at 1080p though.
the 1070's are still above MSRP. The 1060's are finally dropping below. I suppose waiting another two months wouldn't hurt.
Found a 1070 for 400 bucks for pickup only here in Des Moines. I pulled the trigger on it. If anyone else wants a 1070, store pick up in des moines!
Enjoy man, it's good times. As said, not played on 4k with mine yet but if the performance I've had is anything to go by, you won't regret it
