Sorry to double post, but I remember seeing here on Retro some Daytona USA test location cabinets and I can't seem to find them again? They might have been photos from a trade show...

I think some SEGA dev brought these up a few weeks ago on Twitter. Not sure if they're from the 90s, may be a recent commemorative thing.

Talking about pogs... a few days ago I was looking for some of these in the web, when I stumbled on these : [IMG]

In 2005 with the "Pokémon" fever "Matutano Unipessoal Lda." (Portugal) and its parent company ''Matutano Snack Ventures, S.A.'' (Spanish subsidiary of Frito Lay, who's a subsidiary of PepsiCo) released a collection of these pogs (called Nox) which came in bags of Cheetos, Ruffles, Doritos, etc... I remember these well... however I can't remember of the "Sonic X Nox" pogs... every photo in the web points me to Poland... so... was this collection released only in Poland (they came in bags of Cheetos too... which in the middle of a text written in Polish was the only word I could understand :) ... no offense...) ?

A few years ago, MAME/MESS reached the pinnacle of emulation - being able to emulate Windows well enough to run older versions of MAME. i.e. MAME emulating itself.

Coming soon: Sega Retro coverage of lesser versions of itself, as well as its neighbours.

Documenting documentation. But because the end goal is to do a better job at documenting Sega than all of these books combined, this should devolve into an exercise in pointing out how great we are in comparison one day.

Right now it's basically "Ken Horowitz of Sega-16 fame actually bothered to contact people, so his books are better than us". But we'll catch up one day!

It isn't the picture I was thinking of, but this is what the cabinets looked like:

Went and dug out a few more covers following this post, but the whole "Sega Press" thing isn't something I fully understand. There seems to be a DVD series called "Sega Press SP" that turns up around 2009-ish.

But of course, nothing's ever that simple:

    So

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op5EkC7GbxQ

    There's E3 1995. There's a Sega keynote in it. It's... uh... well.

What is the game at 28:40? Tom Kalinske offers no more details other than it being an "unfinished game" (imagine pulling that sort of stunt today). It features pre-rendered footage of a car knocking down a colleseum. You can see it being reflected in the TV screen of the Riglordsaga footage at the 3h 25 min mark.

Other highlights include Nintendo droning on about video game piracy, and Sonya, Jax and Liu Kang turning up to fight each other for Mortal Kombat 3 (before Sonya gets bored and just walks away).

That's in the attract mode for Scud Race Plus, released in 1997:

    (at 1:10)

It's not in the original 1996 release, either.

I would never have thought to look there - nice spot.

I love early 90s 3D rendering - make an animation to prove you can, then shoehorn it into an unrelated project because it looks cool.

No problem! A local laser tag place I visited a lot as a kid used to have Sega Super GT Plus/Scud Race Plus, so I've seen its attract screen many times. Great game too! Wondering how my local laser tag place imported it though, considering that it only released in Japan.

I have a soft spot for early 90s 3D rendering. I am wondering how this ended up solely in Scud Race Plus though. Maybe it was intended for the canceled Saturn port of Scud Race's opening?

Playing Sonic 2 in 1993 might have saved some lives.

Incidentally the scores in that flyer are not easy to achieve in 15 minutes, particularly when half the games would have been brand new at the time. It's by no means impossible but you have to actually be able to play the games - Sega had a good eye for detail, even for throwaway things like this.

I need a name for this disc - any suggestions?

p.s. we could do with better coverage of old Sega demos - given that they used to distribute them for free from the old SoA website, we could even host them.

This but without the Sega part because it's only gonna exist on a Sega related website.

But they're games from the "Sega PC" brand.
