The transformation in Brawl is pretty short. Probably shorter than S2's transformation. And I wouldn't worry about the zoomed in graphics. It's only going to be a split second and like maybe once per level, it's not going to be distracting.

Last I checked, the game engine was scaling the graphics down from that rasterized format though. Unless we really get in close to Sonic, I doubt it would make much difference.

The next release will only scale down the graphics if you tell it to (for smaller resolution screens). Otherwise it's going to reach a max of 1920x1080.

Would the finished game be optimised to run on a PS3 through Linux? I haven't installed another OS on my PS3 yet, but when I do I hope to be able to play this on it. Is there a good chance for me to do this?

You mean for the alpha release, or just the final product? I doubt it will be for the alpha, but I don't know about the finished product.

Yeah, I don't know. You'd have to ask LOst about it. Though he may be more concerned with other things at the moment.

you don't have access to the GPU on the PS3 when running linux so I would doubt it :(

Sonic 2 HD, various 3D work
It's a good question, and one we'll bring up in the next staff meeting if LOst doesn't answer it himself here first.

  11. Suddenly, and totally at random, I remembered that my best friend has a PSP. Maybe ports of S2HD for various game systems could be made? (LOL, a port for the Sega Genesis)

EDIT: Or is my question being answered already? I made this post before I read the last few posts...sorry.

Just to ask, what's left to do for EHZ before we can finally be finished with it? After all, we can't really have our Alpha thingy yet without it being done yet, right?

Hopefully we're close to finishing it so we can get onto CPZ. That should be an interesting zone to work on for sure.

I've written up an account of things left to do in the level art thread. I wrote it awhile ago, but everything should still be pretty accurate.

Oh yes, and that post was assuming that Hill Top Zone will be in the alpha release, and I don't know if it will be or not yet. It depends on how things work out. Though it will most likely be the next stage finished after Emerald Hill Zone is.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this or not, but do you think at this stage in development it would wise to start doing a little advertising for what we're doing, or is it too early for that?

I was thinking of suggesting about creating a thread to do with advertising, but I get the feeling it [the advertising] could bring up some... shall we say, 'unwanted, lazy artists who want to turn this into a fan-game'.

I'm almost dreading to suggest this, but there are some Sonic artists on DeviantART.com that do some pretty good detailed artwork, that we may not have contacted yet...... never mind.

We'll do more advertising when what we have doesn't just look like a collection of random art that's been amassed. If people do come along and try to turn this into a shitty project, then they will be shot down. Simple as that.

Oh, and several of the people on the staff have da accounts. Good artists do exist on there, they're just somewhat rare if you're searching for anything involving Sonic.

  16. So how would we advertise? Word of mouth?

Get the first zone done. Put a video of it on Youtube and advertise in the video that Sonic Retro is looking for artists and musicians. It will show what the project is aiming for.

I say you send the Sonic sprites you have made to SEGA, They might be able to use em for a certain game that has been a hot topic on retro recently ;P

    Hello all,

I only check this forum every now and again to see how progress is erm progressing and have not read anything lately about when the beta is going to be available. Last time I posted I was told that it wouldn't be too long away but have not seen it yet. I do understand that creating a quality product takes a long time so please don't attack me with posts about that as I understand that full and well. All I'm asking for a is a little enlightenment

    Cheers,

    Neil
