    That is outstanding!

    To me, it looks as if Sonic has a blend of both the US and Japanese artwork. Truly great work!!

    (Also, as others have said, a higher resolution would be nice for my desktop if there's one available ^^)

    I don't think I want to bump the tech thread so I'll ask here. Also sorry if this has been mentioned before.

    I don't know what the next tech demo will entail, but I think it would be good to demo the entire Emerald Hill zone. I know not every piece of art is not approved or finished, but I think it'd be good to start building the stages using the existing art to see how well they fit with one another. I belive that creators and potential creators would get a big boost out of seeng the artwork functioning and in motion.

    I also think you should even start building the later stages using the existing sprites blown up and then replace them with the remastered art as you go along (for internal use). This would really help a lot in terms of judging how well the art gits in with one another in more of a real time environment and you could simultaneously review gameplay bugs.

    I do feel very strongly that this really is the best approach to take to get this project moving more efficiently.

    There won't actually be another tech demo -- everything from here on in is mainly focused the final version. We're going to be concentrating on polishing out the rough edges and making sure there aren't game crippling bugs, thus the Alpha.

    The current plan is to have all of EHZ in for the Alpha release, so you're dead on there. As for using existing sprites, it's an idea that would best be run past Gambit right now since he has his own workflow in regards to getting the levels set up with the tools available.

    Well, I'm still waiting on a few tools to do some stuff that will need to be done, so until then I've been focusing on various other things a bit more. Anyways, constructing the other stages wouldn't be a bad idea, but right now we'd only really have a couple assorted pieces and some of the items for most stages, so there wouldn't be much point aside from getting the items set up right now. We'll probably do that later, though.

    So, derailing from the awesomeness that is the drawing on the previous page, how about sticking some foreground in the game? You know, like in Aquatic Ruins Zone, except not as distracting? Chemical Plant would be a nice spot to do this, akin the constructions pillars from Star Light Zone.

    I can't read it, and I have this fetish desire to read legal stuff, but this text is so small - normally that kind of text is small, but still legible.

    Not that it matters much, it's still possible to make out the hieroglyphics letters with a bit of effort :eng101:



    To get completely back on subject, that teaser poster is superb! And judging by the fact it's a teaser, I hope to see something released soon :D

    You know, I always found it kind of odd that Robotnik had two fish badniks which could probably operate the same way (Masher and Chop Chop). I mean, obviously they do very different things in their respective zones, but who's to say that a Chop Chop can't leap out of a river like a Masher, or that a Masher is incapable of rushing blue hedgehogs underwater? This is the premise for another Easter Egg: At the beginning of a playthrough, one Masher from Emerald Hill OR one Chop Chop from Aquatic Ruin will have its sprite switched with the other Badnik, but operate in the same way.

    Alternatively, you could have an option which causes Mashers and Chop Chops to be distributed equally among their respective places in Emerald Hill and Aquatic Ruin. I would consider it a pseudo-reference to Sonic 1, which used the same Badniks in different zones.

    I'll teach you damn Music rascals taking hottest thread for last couple weeks!

    Actually, that idea isn't that bad. Sure, it's kinda pointless but it's interesting to have more connections inbetween zones. Don't know if anyone is willing enough to make them though.

    One rendom misplaced badnik each X games as an easter egg, sounds cool... But mixing enemies from different zones equally? I can't believe you guys are even considering it.

  16. You guys should put in the Snail from the Sonic 2 prototype, since he is still coded and all. Maybe a few other fully programmed badniks too. (The Crocodile maybe?)

    This actually sounds an interesting idea. Additional badniks could maybe be placed in a "Hard Difficuilty" mode. You DARED clicking this mode, we salute you with some cool extras!

    Sounds fine for an extra mode... Although I don't see how can that snail make things any difficult. =|


    Also, perhaps a few more of them can be programmed, going by the enemy design docs that have been released. But that might be a bit too much.
     
  19. Sometimes the snails seem to randomly appear out of nowhere when you're moving quickly.
