I've actually already proposed this idea to the rest of the staff and we might do some stuff like that. ;)

    All the bitches.

And? It doesn't stop people from making very bad photoshop edits, and claiming to have made the game, which was my point.

...Why would anybody even care about some kid in a random forum making a recolor and claiming that he made those graphics, to begin with? Seriously.

Having an open graphics format would allow some other talented teams we might have never heard about, to make stuff like Sonic sprites more based on the artwork, badniks rendered in 3D, hand-painted backgrounds or even experiments like the pixellated graphics that other guy proposed.

Do you think it would be worth it to just discard those possible new sets that may appear out of nowhere, just because somebody might make bad use of the graphics? Even some, unknown to us, Japanese communities may hear of this project and give it a shot and make some awesome stuff with it, without us knowing until somebody finds out by accident.

EDIT: Also, the credits could be just hardcoded so the official project contributors will always get credit. Then an identification file could be included with each set, with the info about it, which could or couldn't appear at the end of the credits as "xxx graphics pack made by: xxx person".

The S2HD engine is Lost's, not Retro's. Anything related to that is all up to him.

  7. You could just enable the graphics, and NOT the engine. People can upload their graphic sets to a site that then could be approved by staff for download.

We have ideas to eventually channel brand new creative juices on "new level concepts" or "layouts" to be selected and developed as official S2HD additions, however, a real "official statement" will be done on this possibility just after AR or Beta. :)

I think it would be a good idea to keep adding as much extra content as possible after the core game is finished.
Built in SonEd and downloadable Player Level Packs = Endless replay value.

I don't mean to sound offensive, and excuse me if I actually do, but hasn't it been already more than one year since the original concept of the project was first created? One would think there would be more by now than a tech demo...

  11. I'm sure we're very close to the first alpha or beta. :)

Nah, that's a very legitimate concern. There's been a ton of progress made even since the beginning of this year. Most, if not all, of the old art has been polished up and refined to meet current standards, and there has been a lot of progress made on everything else in general. Hell, nobody had even started on most of the tiles for Emerald Hill Zone until I came around. I can't really go into too many details, but I can assure you that we have a lot more now than we had for the tech demo, we just haven't shown it all off yet.

Yea, I think the same. We need people to quit their jobs and lives to finish this one ;)

The reason things take so long is to please most of the people. The tech demo was intended to show a playable Sonic mostly, but people got upset over the operating system specifics. Therefore a lot of time has gone to make the actual engine work like people want it to work.
This of course delays the actual game from being produced.

But it is okay because we still need art to be ready before the game is released. That was the other concern people had about the project, that the tech demo's graphics were badly done.

So what is the progress? It is freaking awesome, but can't be released because it would upset people in its current state (you know, the usual cross platform / too much RAM issues), and cause more headaches for us as we are limited man power and time. We all need to reach a certain level of detail in order to succeed, no matter if it is graphics, music, or programming. Once that is done, a new public update will be made.

    We are working on it!

Forgive me if this has been asked before. Are you aiming to include Genocide City, Hidden Palace, or a full length Death Egg? That would be rather fantastic.

Genocide City is believed to be Metropolis Zone Act 3. I think this was confirmed as true, but I'm not sure. Hidden Palace, yes, Death Egg, we aren't sure what we're doing with it yet since it's a long ways off.

I have a quick question (sorry if it has been discussed before).
Is there any plans for a 2 player racing mode?

I know that it is probably the most (only?) hated thing about Sonic 2 but if you ask me that just shows one more thing that can be improved on.
I thought a better way of doing the race mode would be to make it timed and basically like 1 player at a time. When one player finishes the next player starts and has to beat the first players time. That would make it look nicer (not squished and no fat characters).

What are your opinions on this one?

Ha, well with the characters looking like they put on 20 lbs and really everything looking really beefy in general, plus the fact that the genesis didn't really handle it well (2x's the CPU) it resulted in a flickery artifact filled slower experience. I figure with this HD remake either their gonna drop the 2 player aspect altogether or somehow do it differently.

Read some reviews of the game. Even if you don't agree I know that the majority of people found that it is/was shit.

  19. I still recon the game should allow mods by the end of the project. That way anyone willing can add these levels, as well as custom levels (there was an editor planned IIRC) And even total conversion mods for Sonic 1, 3&K and CD. Others aswell. There could be downloadable characters as well, like Mighty and Metal Sonic. The beauty part is people won't be pressured to complete them, as they're optional. However I don't know how easy that would be for the programmers to implement.
I've put this idea out there before I believe (using SRB2 as an example, but PC Oblivion is even better) but this is just an excuse to say it again. And I just realised it has been partially discussed on the previous page :eng101:

Also, about the multiplayer, online matches were planned, so that most likely means no squished levels. But probably with a local multiplayer option. Don't worry, it'll look more impressive in HD.

Adding things later would be amazing. Hell, maybe one day we'll see something like sonic 1 2 3 and CD rolled into one game, that is IF downloadable content is going to be a reality. And the online multiplayer ala LIVE style is a great idea. Those that are making this game I give you guys a big thumbs up. I will be sure to donate $$ to this project when a new demo is out! (where the hell is that paypal link?)
