Even if that idea hasn't been well received, I think it will actually be useful to use two different frame sets for the fast and the super-fast running animations, even if they look exactly the same. Just in case somebody wants to differentiate those by editing the frames, after the final version has been released. Some people will want to see the super peel-out in there.

Also, perhaps the same should be done with other animations that share frames, since we aren't running out of space and some subtleties could be added to each animations (for example, the jumping animation could be made a little different than the ground spin if somebody wanted).

  5. Or why not have the blur as an idea for the super sneaks, since Sonic runs a lot faster when that power up is active.

Erm, super peel-out wasn't in S2 as you know.
I thought this was going to be a recreation of the original S2 game, not a hack.

I'm gonna improve it: make a modifiable frame list. That way you can use the same bitmaps on different animations, but no need to hardcode the game to use them (I.e. you're allowed to use more bitmaps than the original ones supported by the game).

That blurring is a TERRIBLE idea. For one thing, Sonic's not the thing hat's blurring, the background is. Bad bad bad bad.

Well, yeah, that sounds even better.

    It was just an example.

Sonic 2 HD: Mockup... person... thingie.
Agreed. It wouldn't look right to put blur on Sonic who doesn't move very fast in relation to the camera, and not on the background which is zooming by.

Even tough it was an original concept idea to add, I think that differentiating the animation is much better then applying heavy filters.

Said that, now the engine could potentially support new visual FX, if we'll want to add them.
But as per now we will not considering any "xxx effect" until the engine core is finished.

Count me in, as It would only take me 4 frames to do that ultra-cool Sonic CD max speed animation.
But again, it's just one of future extra additions

Oh, I forgot to post the latest project news, I'll do it now.

The Super Peel Out is an awesome idea, even though most people (including whoever was responsible for his running animation in SSBB) seem to think it's supposed to imply that he's actually moving his feet in a figure 8. Considering that one of he frame is just a oval, it looks much more like it's supposed to imply "He's moving his feet WAY to fast for you to see".

Also, I'd love to see it in there because I've never been a fan of the wheel 'o feet.

  13. I was gonna say I loved the blur idea, but what you guys said here does make sense.
Still, I think the blur looks awesome as a standalone .gif

Would there be a way to make the backgrounds blurred though? Now that would be cool!

  14. I personally think the blur is an interesting idea, but the point about Sonic in relation to the camera stands. This makes me wonder what kind of effects we can experiment with though, particularly for Super Sonic.

Also personally, I'd have thought blurring the background would look cooler than blurring the character - perhaps make a slight motion-blur effect to it.

Here's a [seriously] rubbishy attempt at a blur:

I think the blur is completely overblown and completely unnecessary. I'll agree with nineko's opinion in a slightly less offensive manner. :P

I dunno. It sounded like a funky idea for the background to blur, rather than Sonic, to me. But hey, everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

I have to say Growler, that mock up you've done doesn't look bad. I can see what we all mean by the background blur. It's just a case of pulling it off properly though, but this would only be with much higher speeds, and that's assuming that a higher velocity is added to this project. But that's for the co-ordinators to decide. I thought I'd chip in my $0.02 though.

What I was thinking about the blur was to have the center of the image normal and to have just the edges of the background blurred, thats not really explained too well but I cant do a mockup because I am in between computers at the moment and so don't have photoshop. Take a look at this image I found on google

If that circle were feathered the black parts would be normal/un blurred and the white part would be blurred. I hope this is making sense
