C'mon now, don't take the fun outta everything. I was fucking around and was kinda in sarcasm mode, sorry that I didn't mention.
Mockup, real graphics. The clouds were added for aesthetics but will correctly be in the final product's background. Is that tree acceptable?
Is that a new level design for a game gear sonic? It is awesome to see art edits for the 8bit sonic games.
The thing with trees like that is that they'll looks really repetitive if you put a bunch of them near each other. Haven't seen that ground pattern before, though!
No but I'm glad you're getting the impression it's from a Game Gear game. That's what I'm going for in my hack - a Genesis Sonic game with the soul of the Game Gear series but the power of the Genesis series.
I think it has enough leaves. :P But do you consider this an improvement? Does it still look weird to anyone? Let me know.
Okay that works. Only thing that bothers me is the odd leaf sitting up straight, but then again I'd never seen something like it.
I like the foreground and the tree does look better than the first one but I just don't think that shading is ever going to work. It looks Sonic's spikes more than a palmtree sorry!
Heres what I've been workin on, and intended to release a few days ago. And yeah the release will be soo....I hope.
Sorry but these are rather ugly. First you've got a gray and white foreground that has little depth to it other than the pattern. Simple patterns should be done more like GHZ where you have lots of different depths in the foreground and some sort of shading on the edges. The backgrounds got to go too it looks like four solid blocks colors on top of each other which don't blend or match very well. I know there's a little different in color in that background but its pretty much all straight lines and as I said the colors don't match. That combination is lethal. Personally and I've had to do this too I'd just go back to the drawing board if I were you.
Dear god you're an annoying ass. For the screenshot - That's pretty entertaining. I was actually looking at it going "Wait, that's SA2!?" And this isn't a prerendered scene, is it? I'm either confused (likely) or missing something. (Likely as well)
Yes it is a prerendered scene, and I have every right to be an ass about that. It's just a very common video format.
You mean like this? http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/7854/sa2.png + - Sadly, it's just the Dreamcast version in some sort of modified NullDC Window. Still Pretty neat though since it comes with it's own installer and uninstaller. Also, here is a few sorts of random bits of work, I haven't really been working on much lately though, college and life is getting in the way: I've done a bit more work on my old Sonic Ring Rush project, neatened it up a little bit fixed the majority of the bugs in the first level since the first (dreadful) release and gave each act a much better palette, as you can see above I've changed the horrible pink palette from the second level to give it a more sunset look. I'm still tweaking with it however since it does look a bit "sunburnt". Credit to MarkeyJester for the original art. This was more of a "concept" level I did a few months ago, the art originally was for a present but I actually quite like the style even if it is just a few simple tiles at the moment, not really sure what I'm going to do with it, maybe some sort of custom special stage. I did this shortly after DRX discovered that Sonic 1 Beta footage. I might do a bit more on this remake since I was quite impressed with it myself. (Apologies for the "PAL" aspect on the screenshots, I was testing something and forgot to disable it again)
My mate at college gave it to me months ago and just transferred it on my USB. So I don't know myself, sorry. (Didn't want to make another reply since I didn't want to derail this thread) EDIT: I asked him but he can't remember himself. Just found it while browsing Google for "Sonic Adventure 2 Windows" or something similar. Sorry I can't help.
Nitpicking: That grass is too plain, in my opinion. Grass is hard to do though. I suggest adding more darker colors near the bottom. I also like the underwater palette but I think it's a little too bright. Though I do like what you're doing there. Good luck. An update: Not a mockup this time. Progress is coming along smoothly. Made these a while ago. I'm not sure if the springboard needs to be flipped. The blue spring is planned for inclusion, if I could get my ASM act together.
