Fortunately, I have more than one sudoku puzzle layout in the hack:oldbie:

I didn't even recognize it as sudoku at first! I thought it was some sort of debugging thing.

Edit: Also have an animated version, because a still image really can only do so much:

started working on Turquoise Hill graphics.
I'm very tired of working on this hack continuously for now, so I think I'm going to be taking a break. =P

if you've been following the project for some time now, you'll notice some things are larger (to accomodate S2 Sonic) and I did away with the ugly Master System palette, opting instead for the Game Gear palette. the assets have also been modified though, so now the ramp is a bit larger, and the blocks have more shading on them (I could afford 2 more colours in the FG palette.).

well, as a final sendoff for now, I've edited the music for Turquoise Hill zone 1!
I can't post the file here, as Retro keeps complaining (OGG is apparently not an allowed extension, and ZIPping it leaves it too large, apparently), so here's a YouTube video upload. =P

Since I missed halloween this hack is indeed making a return... This build is still heavily wip! So I am only showcasing it for gathering feedback

  9. so much for taking a break...
that glitched platform in Turquoise Hill 1 is a left over by the way. it used tiles that were made for an earlier version of the tileset.
also this took me a whole day again... yippie

I think this is the first time I've ever hit the Mega Drive's sprite limit, but uh hey this menu's pretty cool at least.

Perhaps I'll make it work closer to how SA1 actually does it, and makes the lightened title screen image a separate combined image. Although that takes up more ROM space, and I'd have to fade the screen to rebuild the tilemap, which sucks...

I also updated the main title screen itself, having darkened the background palette very slightly so the white outline on the text is visible, adjusted the position of the text sprites, updated the copyright to look nicer, so now it looks about as close as you could get to SA1's title screen on the MD.

  11. really? maybe you're thinking of sth else, but reminder that my project's option menu does edit the tile map, without having to fade.

it does take time to load in and there is a hole in the bottom text, but that's most likely my own fault. and it may not be too fast. but, it is possible.

Background and foreground editor implementation (under construction).
The video is sped up in the process of creating a background (from scratch), at the end of the video you can see the finished result.

  14. This is just remaking the first part of THZ1 in Sonic 2, I haven't even made many changes to it yet. It's still recognisable. Other than that, there's also some weird collision with the Boing-o-Bot, and its spring goes too low. I'll have to fix those.

  16. I've added a splash screen before the title. I'll have to decrease its length though, it's too long. I've also made the main menu selector not take up a whole background layer and instead use sprites, which makes it so I can't make it any wider (most of sprite RAM is used up by it already haha), but it does mean that when fading to a new scene it will not go back up to "CONTINUE" option. You may notice that the options menu takes a lot less time to load in. Indeed, I've fixed some mistakes I made. There's also no longer a hole in the "OPTIONS" text at the bottom, and there's also a red pattern from the main menu to make it look less bland, but I think there's still work to be done in that department.

Should I make an effort on this or no? (Sonic in Minecraft)
    Made with SCE

should you put effort into this? sure! it'd be a cool concept to see, I think.

  19. (oops, my last post was yesterday... mods, is this enough justification for a new post?)
I'll have to figure out what's wrong with that slope there, why its collision is so broken.
The blue Tails that is invulnerable to pretty much any form of death (excluding drowning), can fly forever, and comes with a very rudimentary stage select thing is a debug cheat thing to make stuff easier on me. That's why he bounces out of a pit at the end =)
I also haven't erased the whole layout yet, maybe I'll find some object placement very useful from it.
I have gotten loops working, though! =) Yeah, they look a bit squished, but it looks correct in the chunks themselves.

The blocks are waaay too small. I didn't even realize it was Minecraft-inspired until I read your text—it looked like generic Alex Kidd pixel art. If you want to get an authentic Minecraft vibe, I'd make sure you take the general Steve-to-block ratio in account that makes up the original game too. Currently a single block looks like the size of Sonic's entire head.
