"I thought this was a Mania mod/10"
It’s a safe “Is this on the 32X???”/10
Coming to a hacking contest near you!
Special thanks to Psi for the Amy Sprites!
Hey, nice to know I came in handy. :D
If you need help configuring Amy's gameplay I can help there too.
This project must really push Sonic 1 though. I still don't know how Classic Heroes got in three characters.
Oooh, it’s been a while! Preview of the next hack?
Working on a ROM hack called "Oops! All Green Hill Zone" and I've been making some good progress porting Emerald Hill Zone
I have been hard at work since the updates for the contest ended.
So while our community has been able to edit the level chunks in Sonic 1 J2ME by hex, I played around with SonLVL project files and managed to load the chunks in SonLVL, making it easier to edit.
The obvious thing to do is write my name~
Gotta animate those tiles and add that scrolling routine soon...
Shadow and highlight is a really cool feature of the MD. It's also super easy to implement!
Unfortunately, it's brought down by it's severe limitations.
Untitled Sonic 1 Hack is dead. How about something completely different?
This is Sonic 1 Redux. The level names and the general aesthetic of the levels are the same, but the level designs, music, palettes, and all that other good stuff is different. It also has a whole new set of Sonic sprites that are a mix of Mania, Sonic 2, and my own additions. No complex ASM changes and mechanics here, just a standard ROM hack using the skills in design I've learned.
Hopefully this project is actually finished instead of fading into a slow death like UTS1H.
That one screenshot is already pretty promising.
Sooo yeah some minor work on Sky Titan Zone. A member of my team will soon be free to make Parallax for the stages implemented thus far so hopefully it won’t be too long until this gets a more complete feel
Someone on Discord said to do something dumb, so I did, and here we are.
Cream and the Big Cheese(s).
This isn't quite right...
I'm working on a 2P VS hack for Sonic 1. But Sonic 1 doesn't natively support 448i. So using the S2NA tiles as a base, I made GHZ's foreground use 8x16 tiles, just to get setup. It's pretty VRAM heavy unfortunately, so I optimized it, chucking 548 or so unused and duplicated tiles.
But there's still more work that needs to be done of course to make the game render things properly, not the mention the BG. Enabling 448i still looks like this nonsense:
So hold on tight and maybe soon enough I can have something at least a little more presentable. The plan is to basically just make 2 viewports of Sonic 1, before adding the actual 2 player elements.
Edit: Here's the hack's title screen (didn't want to double post on the same subject)
Separate names with a comma.
