    I'm considering getting rid of it, but then what do I replace it with? It'd end up being a hazard-free, nice to look at but not fun zone.

    I was going to suggest this but I thought you might think that it would be too much hassle to put in.

    Also I hope you don't mind but I wanted to see what ideas would look good with your modified art.

    I wanted to see what the original grass would look like with the new bricks but also to see it what it would look like if more in line with the GHZ grass terrain.

    This I quite like. I didn't intend for something like this but it came about while doing the grass for the concept above. It makes MZ more interesting to look at if the grass wasn't there. If you went for something like this then maybe MZ could do with some new bricks being made at angles so you not just running on flat boring surfaces.

    Also I don't know if you noticed but I though some fire pot on a pillar would look good to make the level a bit more interesting.

    I was going to add other stuff and then show these but I wanted to see if you liked them and if you want me to throw in some more concepts. I'd be quite happy to give other things a shot like make a loop or a fountain if you want.

    Some interesting suggestions there. The fire-pot one I already had in progress, not quite exactly the same, since I though not doing something with that was a waste of that routine. =P

    If I'm inspired enough beforehand, you may see a release around the 20th anniversary. Failing that, around the end of the hacking contest, so not a massive lot of difference. =P

    Well here's a very small update on my Sonic Chaos hack. (I finally came up with a name for it, Sonic Chaotic, still need to edit the title screen though. :v:) The boring palette in THZ is still present, I'll change it in the future. I had to change the layout of the HUD because the layout was causing a VRAM issue when the boss would load, but I'll change it back once I tweak the HUD loading routine. Also I'm in the process of porting some songs from the GG version, but as you may be able to tell from the video it's in very early stages. And finally, Sonic and Tails now outrun the camera a bit with the sneakers. (I like the effect. :v:)

    Oh yes please, between the music differences of MS and GG versions, I did prefer the GG version more (Aqua Planet Zone, Gigapolis Zone).

    To me the GG version is the one that sounds weird as that little melody at the start just sound really out of place and forced. It's funny how we can all have strong views over little bits like this.

    .. :S that was.. a very, very long video for only two screenshots and a repetitive music track. Looks and sounds good, though.

    The first screen looks gorgeous! Not too keen on the second, brown zones just look so... shit. I'm glad you're reworking the original tracks (as opposed to shoehorning some Megaman shit in there), but they're not quite as good as the original yet.

    Keep it up though mate!

    Can you explain to me exactly why they don't seem as good as the original? It'd be handy constructive criticism.
    I've got Act 3 ready to be converted, which expands upon Act 2's ideas.

    You said you wanted to make Marble Zone look new, maybe you could reflect that in the music.

    I think the Original Marble Zone music with reversed frequency tables (from what I heard in a hack) sounds like a nice tranquil, new, kinda jolly version. What sort of atmosphere are you trying to pull off? The music I heard there sounded... more mechanical.

    The colour selection you have chosen just doesn't give that gorgeous look like the first act. It just needs more work on what works and what doesn't. I can see what you trying to do by having different times of the day but perhaps you should try different colours for a evening sky and maybe darker greens for the plant life.

    I think it's simply because I've heard those kind of instruments too many times and they sound very drab and dreary. And it's too slow and reminds me of elevator music. Plus with your whole idea of a fresh looking Marble Zone, the music should reflect that. I'm (obviously) no expert, but a cross between Marble and Aquatic Ruin Zone music I think would be ideal.
