But really, you didn't think it was awesome when you ran through the Hidden Palace as Knuckles to notice the Deathegg was already gone? It gave the idea that the whole incident was bigger than what just one character was experienced.

 

I know, but it feels kind of out of place to have Tails fighting Metal Sonic, who's supposed to be Sonic's rival, not Tails'.

I guess so, it just doesn't sit well with me to have Tails fight Metal Sonic.

 

Why would you want a Sonic vs Tails fight?

I guess you do make a good point though, didn't Knuckles fight Mecha Sonic in Sonic 3 anyway?

 

And in Sonic 2 & Knuckles.

Now that I think about that, also Tails fought against Metal Sonic in Sonic 2.

So yeah, I'm all up for Sonic VS Tails. And Tails VS Knuckles. And Knuckles VS Tails. And Knuckles VS Sonic.

 

Yeah, but didn't every character fought him in both of those game, right?

 

Er... I have an other idea.
I enjoy a lot the fight between Sonic and Knuckles at the Hidden Palace zone of Sonic&K.
In Street of Rage 3 the characters meet an robotic form of Axel which really seems to be Axel himself until they discover the trickery.

What do you think about a robotic tails in the normal tails skin (until he's defeated) ?
He could be a boss met by the three caracters. A so innocent form acting bad is awesome. Then, the Dr Eggman's technology could have improved.

 

I think the idea of a more 'organic' fight between characters would still be better suited to Tails fighting a Metal Sonic.
I don't mean make Metals appearance any less robotic but just make his movements, attack pattern and damage animations more fluid. Make the battle more varied such as the sonic vs knuckles fight or the SMS sonic 2 metal sonic fight rather then the very methodical approach to the MD metal sonic fights.

As for other Metal versions of characters. I'm very much against the idea, its this limited thinking of taking an existing idea and putting very little effort into changing it beyond the first and most obvious progression that created the major problem that sonic suffers from, which is an unending stream of uninspired and bland characters. We have the combined talent to move beyond that and come up with something original.

 

Well, I also agree, tails would fight metal Sonic, instead of metal Tails then.

But, I would maybe change things bit.

Sonic vs Metal Sonic

Tails vs Robotnick

Knuckles vs Nack/Fang

 

There's no reason why all the characters can't fight Metal sonic at some point in the story, but it will just be Tails that comes up against the upgraded/super version for his final fight.

 

But at the same time there's totally a reasin Sonic shouldn't -- it has been done to death already. On top of that, the 'evil clone' is one of the most inevitable and overused conventions of any character-led story.

Wario, Judge Death, Titanium Man, Jimmy the Wannabe Homicidal Maniac... just off the top of my head. We are opting to include Metal Sonic because he's badass, let's not taint that by MAKING SONIC FIGHT HIM FOR THE ZILLIONTH TIME.

 

Finally I totally approve the idea of a fight against a Metal character with a robotic skin but with more "organic" moves to break the monotony. That also could accompany the eventual evolution of Eggman's technology.

 

True enough, I'm very much for the just having Tails fight Metal sonic idea.
As mentioned in my previous post I think it is also important to take the idea of 'breaking from the norm' even further by not just having a different character fight metal sonic but to actually evolve the approach to how the fight takes place. At first glance the Metal sonics may appear to mimic sonics moves but in actual fact beyond appearances their movements are far from similar.
Some of my all time favorite bosses have been when the two opponents have genuinely been evenly matched (Final fight against Liquid on top of Metal Gear, The last fight between Dante and Virgil in Devil May Cry 3 and to a lesser extent the Simba/Scar fight from the Lion King). That is what I believe we should be aiming for in a final battle, something fresh whilst still maintaining general appeal of Metal Sonic. Having sonic fight him again, making extra metal characters and keeping the same attacking patterns just further enforces the stereotype.

 

After watching Sonic OVA and Metal Sonic's robo-like kick of death, I really wouldn't like organic moves added to Metal.

 

By all means keep the robot aspect of his attacks. What I meant was make him attack with a less repetitive pattern, whilst relatively easy to defeat the Sonic Vs Knuckles fight didn't really follow a set routine that you could memorize and take advantage of and that is something I would like to see in a Metal Sonic fight, your movements being matched by your opponent rather then following a predetermined routine.
I'm assuming this makes programing much more of a hassle but I believe the change in direction could make things interesting.

 

I just had a neat little idea—maybe at some point Sonic and Metal Sonic would meet up, sort of snicker, and go about their own business? After all, I figure even they have to realize the futility in them fighting again. =P

How about Robotnik points to metal sonic so he will attack sonic and metal gives robotnik the finger and slings a hobo bindle over his shoulder and walks away?

 

While at one point you are correct, we can see it from another standpoint.

Sonic never fought the "true", Sonic CD styled Metal Sonic in a straight-up base form fight. I think that, for the sake of pixellated justice, there could be a Sonic x Metal Sonic fight at least once in the game.
