Haha!! Nice one Athelstone! It seems I cannot live without doing more Sonic frames (though my girl don't agree so much lately..) Ok, anyway I need your help about the original sprite: 1)How the arm is connected 2)Your opinion in how will we replicate the "trail effect" on Sonic shoes Thanks

I think it looks good, except I don't think his hands/arms should be like that. I think there's more just curled up into a fist, ie his arms aren't folded like you drew them. See: http://www.sonicresearch.org/art/albums/So.../sonic04_32.png Also, inbetween his muzzle and his arm should be tan colored as well, since that is his stomach. And just to be nitpicky, I think his ear closest to us is curved a bit too much inward =P EDIT: Actually, the more I look at the original sprite, it does look like the hand is supposed to be positioned like that. EDIT 2: Oh, I see now. His legs are folded up against his chest, that's why that area's blue. Heh, whoops...
I think you should add another darker shade, to really bring out the shape of the head.It Looks very, very flat at the moment, but great start! I think making it a fist would be more better looking, his hand looks a little flimsy like that. Plus most promotional artwork show fists.
Looking great, Vincent! Though, he's missing the buckle on his shoe in the newest frame. I personally prefer it that way, but it needs to be there in order to fit with the other frames.
I think the shoe could do with being a little thinner than that - other than that, great work! I can easily imagine how hard it must be to figure out that mess! :o
You are right SillyJonna! I removed it before shaping the shoes and forget to put it back. P.s. I'm really looking forward your art. Your Knuckles's shape was great! (did you use the Yarharhar's method or you based directly on the original sprite?)
Hmm, the official artwork (not just Sonic Spinball's cover) shows how Sonic's arms aren't crossed while jumping, but just bent like when running... If somebody can please find an example for me, it would help us here much.
Hrm, I just noticed something... I used the ImageZoom extension to zoom down the Sonic frames to 25%, the size of the original sprites. This is what it looks like: As you can see, it differs in quite a few aspects, ignoring pixelation from bad HTML image scaling. You think it'd be possible to use this downscaled version as a base for what needs work in the larger frames to be more true to the original sprites? Ignoring mouth and buckles, of course.
Thank you! Now that I have access to my old computer's files again, I'll be finishing up the changes to Knuckles and posting it within the next hour or so. I just based mine directly on the sprite.
Tweak I think the new sprites look awesome. If you want it to look the same just put a 2xsai filter on everything. =P

I know it was kind of like that already with the original sprite, but it just...looks weird. Does anyone get what I mean?

Ignoring mouth and buckles, of course.[/quote] Now you're just pushing it. The stand frame has been tweaked and modified to hell for nearly a month now and it has finally reached a point where most agree on its quality. That's the one they should be using as a base for the rest of the animations, at it's full scale, not at its downscale version. I know you want to be true to the original, but come on guys, there's only so much you can do with such small images that you're going to have to end up improvising in the end. When these images are done, they're not going to be nearly the same as when you shrink them back down. The point is to make them look good and match the style of the games if it were a higher resolution, not as close to the original with the original resolution.
May as well give him a vagina. Also the standing sprite is good enough as it is. Who cares if it's only 5% off from the original, I've always been told that a 20% difference is passable, 10% is good, and 5% is damn good. From what I see, it looks good enough, and this is all about aesthetic improvement, not scaled up originals.
I think it's great, but that little smile is a bit too strong; it looks a little silly, like the box art. The regular ingame sprite doesn't give him a [visible] mouth, which I think looks a lot better for tails. Also, since we're keeping that mouth on Sonic, will it change from a tiny grin to other expressions in different situations (besides getting hurt, drowning, falling off a ledge, etc.)
