I'd be more excited for a Saturn mini.

Xbox being labeled a Sega console in Japan would be a neat novelty but otherwise kind of meaningless, other than Sega (potentially) sticking with Xbox exclusively going forward.

I think I'm sick of mini consoles. I would personally love a collaboration between Microsoft and Xbox. Sega made a couple of great xbox-exclusives early in the xbox's life.

Unfortunately, pretty sure the announcement isn't this. Probably going to be something dumb honestly.

Does Sega Sammy Holdings even want to give their games division the kind of money necessary to make an industry double take? As far as I can tell they've been dumping damn near everything into merchandising and licensing.

He's incorrect. It was released and the emulator was eventually hacked to run other games.
There's even a wiki page for it here on Retro: https://segaretro.org/GiriGiri

Sega may not have the means to release a Saturn emulator / mini, but that doesn't mean they couldn't hire or license an emulator to do the job. GiriGiri above is one example, but they also licensed the homebrew emulator jEnesisDS from Stephan Dittrich for Sonic Collection DS.

So how is this revolutionary? What's happening anyway?

Sounds like some sort of hacking tool or cheating device tbh. Either way, it's going to be glorious

Who knows? We don't know what the news is, if it has anything to do with the patent or what said the practical application of said patent mgiht be.

how am i supposed to fit six AA batteries in this thing

Anyway, the real big news? Don't get too excited. It's a type of cloud-based service for Arcades. Or in this case it's actually "fog-based".
    This guy explains it better:
So it's potentially a big thing for Japan and could rile-up the industry a bit in Japan... but revolutionary and on the scale of the PS5 news this it is not. I'm glad that I didn't over-hype this. It was only ever being teased by one journalise for Famitsu, whilst SEGA themselves didn't say a word. It was obviously not going to be amazing. But I'm still surprised that the journalist had the gall to compare it to the PS5 news. It's just not on that level at all.

lmao, nobody has mentioned the actual news that was hyped by the Famitsu tech columnist.
Edit: Actually Blue Bloods posted it on the last page, but this thread is continuing to be about the GG Micro which has nothing to do in the context of the original post.

That “fog gaming” thing is actually really cool. I do think that’s on the level of the PS5 reveal, because it sounds pretty advanced.

Maybe that’s because it was announced on the same day in the same topic, and one is a cute little novelty gaming console and the other is some cloud based something-or-other for Japanese arcades which, well, what’s to discuss? :british:

We were told once at work that we should be transitioning from "edge computing" to "fog computing".

Don't let it enter the lexicon.

Odds are fog gaming will never leave Japan. Arcades have basically been dead for decades in the west (at least in the U.S.).

Depends on where you live tbh. They are (or were before Covid) alive and thriving around me. Both modern and retro.
