Faded Hill sucks tho'. But I agree Forces soundtrack is pretty cool, it's just not good as Sonic Adventure, CD, Unleashed, Colors, Generations and Lost World in my opinion. However, I have to say: the game nails on the orchestral songs / score - I think it's amazing and the best part of the OST. I genuinely have goosebumps on those two songs for example: Oh yeah, I really miss the Drum 'n' Bass songs we had like on Sonic Unleashed or Sonic 2006; really wish they would come back with this style again some day (maybe in Sonic "Rangers" / 2022).
The Forces OST suffered from a lot of generic instrumentation and bland melodies that didn't really grasp the player's attention. There was nothing remotely captivating about most the tracks on there, and others just weren't memorable. There are some good tracks on there though, particularly the orchestral pieces.
I always wondered how the tracks for Classic Sonic would sound if they got a Sonic CD treatment. Battle with Egg Dragoon Mk. II reminds me a lot of the boss theme from CD.
I know, hence why I wonder how the Classic tracks would've sounded I'd they went with a CD style instead of trying to emulate a Genesis sound. Even Faded Hills and Casino Forest sound like they came from CD even though they're from Ohtani.
It could be worse - you want a Sonic game with an incredibly forgettable soundtrack, go play Sonic Boom. As much as I HATE Infinite's theme, I can at least remember it.
Well, regarding Sonic 1 and 2, I take it they would sound like Nakamura’s demo tracks with a bit more polish and different instruments.
I don't really think there's an OST I go out of my way to listen to on its own. I would say that SA1 has my favorite OST overall due to its sheer variety and number of quality tracks. Gamma's theme might be my favorite song ever, so I don't even mind that it plays in 90% of his cutscenes. As a random aside: I actually strongly prefer the original sound of Chemical Plant to Mania's act 1. Love that twangy FM sound and it doesn't feel nearly as punchy in Mania.
