My friend has one. For being so tiny and cheap looking it's actually not all that bad. I wouldn't get one for myself though. I like my REAL laptop.
I have a Asus EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPC (904HD) It's a nice little dinky thing that I use for College, I just have Microsoft Office 2003, Adobe CS3, all the applications I need for College... ...And of course, Diablo II, PSO:BB, SA:DX, Kega Fusion. =P
I've got my eyes on a 901 at the moment, though the last few days after trying the larger keyboards I was set on one of those. I don't know what to do, to be honest. The 1000's keyboard is definitely a little more comfortable, but it's also overall larger and I can't get one for as cheap as the 901. I missed out an amazing deal on a 1000H too, someone was selling one for €250 that lived in my area(so no shipping). What kind of battery life do you get on the 904HD? I was going to get one as I saw it for under 200, but it's not an ATOM model.
At the moment, I'm on 87% and the Battery meter says it's got 4:51 hours left (It keeps going up) D= Make sure that it's not too small, it's actually one of the reasons why I picked the 904HD, it sits perfectly on my lap. ^_^
I wouldn't think they were, they only have a GMA950. At low settings probably. The GMA is pretty bad at being power efficient too. Should have used ION.
Oh, I didn't realize it was a GMA950, that's completely understandable - GMA950's can handle Half-Life 2 at decent speeds (I should know, I used one for like 3 years). Heroes and SADX run like a dream. Even nullDC and Makaron can run great with hacks for the pixel shaders.
They're probably a bit better than the Intel 950 chips, in any case, and they run SADX reasonably well too.
I guess the whole netbook thing never really caught on with me much at all. I'm a college student and walk around class to class, but I happily carry my 17" screen laptop around. I would also hate not having a full keyboard.
THe 10" netbooks and Aspire ones have a bigger keyboard. With the smaller EEEs it's just a case of getting used to it.
I have one, the battery is kinda good, but, dunno, something happened to it, and know is DAMN slow.. D:
I decided to go with the 901 in the end, the one I was set on getting to begin with. It's the most portable model and has probably the best battery life. In a year or two I'll buy a higher capacity battery and it'll be all good.
I think these things are an amazing thing for someone such as a student. It lacks a decent graphics card, so they won't be bothered installing any games, has a good wifi chip, so they can research faster, and it is an OK machine all around. I would buy one if I could be bothered.
Nice picture of Louise you got there. The EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPC definitely would be the first tech thing I'd look into buying if I wasn't like... broke
Also the one I've looked at seems to lack an optical drive altogether, but this could be a bad thing when it comes to watching DVDs and the like (although I guess external drives are probably dirt cheap these days). I may have to consider one of these as a cheaper alternative to my ageing laptop when I go back to uni. Fewer bells and whistles mean fewer distractions and a 160GB HDD means more space for those oh-so-important psychology journals =P EDIT: Rather concerned about the website, however. Should really come with a tag advertising it as the laptop for pretty people.
Im thinking of getting a Samsung NC-10 its supposedly has the best keyboard out of ALL of the netbooks, which really matters on something that size.
I was thinking of getting one, since they're so damn cheap, and then I did an ebay search of full size laptops between $100-$300 and found much more attractive prospects. Sure, they're old and second hand and you've got to watch out for dodgy batteries and exorbitant postage, but there are some gems amongst the rough.
