    Thanks.

For the HUD, this isn't definitive. We can listen your suggestions of course, but we put it here because the GBA screen is small. we don't want the screen to be too saturated. ;)
We will make tests, if you want.

For the size of things like monitors, etc... we don't think that it is so disturbing, this isn't our main problem now :P
The Sonic sprite isn't so small front of the objects. You'll see it on the next "demo"

Why make Sonic smaller anyway? It doesn't make that much of a difference for what I see...

Yes, the difference is small, but the GBA has a very small screen compared to the Genesis one, and the vision field is reduced a lot. Believe me, we don't make those changes for the fun, but really because we are constraint, else the game would be unplayable (as Master System Sonics on the Game Gear). ;)
It's the reason for which we must put the HUD at the topmost corner of the screen (in order to make it as discrete as possible) and reduce the size of the main sprite. ;)

    This game is really good!
    Amazing work so far.

There is some little things I don't like at all, but anyway, this is a great start. I'm sure you will improve it in the future and reach the old Megadrive Sonic games quality, but for the GBA.

BTW, what's your secret to program on GBA? I always wanted to know that. I guess there is a developpement kit somewhere, maybe open source, and then, available for MacOS X. Just curious and interested... =P

Suggestion. And remember this is just a suggestion no more no less, but are you going to include an actual underwater portion of that Marina Madness looking Zone? One thing that pisssed me off in Chaotix is that there were no underwater levels which is a staple (for bettter or worse) in Sonic games. I really hated how it looked like the boats were just flying in the air instead of actually being in water. Adding water in that zone would be awesome. :D

  7. Umm. I can't download the game link is broken ;)

Another staple that Chaotix is missing are the pits of death. Oh no! A pit with nothing in it! Somehow Sonic dies!
Yeah, I noticed I can't download either. Bummer, since I just got home and am looking forward to it.

First of all, even if this is aiming to be more original Sonic, the camera is more "Sonic Advance 2". I like it!

The secret is not really a secret. GBA programming is as old as the emulator Visualboy Advance. Most tools and compilers are made by people like you and me, and are not Nintendo official. They are as good as the official though. I have been in the gbadev community since 2001, and now I am a Nintendo DS coder myself... aiming higher. If you want to start programming for the GBA or NDS, visit http://www.gbadev.org

Thank you very much for all your encouragements :)
Sorry for download problems, I uploaded it on a different site:

[Edit:] I did also a second HUD, much more discrete because of the GBA screen size. The two will be available in the game, you can choose them in the display options menu. You can see the first one in my signature, and the second here:

    Thank you LOst.
With your advice and link, I compiled my first GBA ROM. ^_^

Hmmm, I like the first one better.

By the way, is the last download supposed to be the version with Advance sprites? Looks quite promising anyway.

Yeah I really like this. Couple of things that bug me though are the spinning (having the actual ball rotate looks a bit wierd) and the jumping doesn't quite feel right yet. Also even though the GBA screen is small I still think it wouldn't look bad with a regular Sonic 2 sprite (I never really liked the S3 ones) but hey it's your game ^^

I like the first one better too, but that's brunni's decision :P

The last download was supposed to be the "advance version", but we plan to release a new demo soon.

QJimbo : the problem of the spinning is only on emulator... I know it doesn't look very well, but there is no problem on a DS or a Gba

I think he means it just doesn't make sense to see the usual still shine rolling along with the rest of the sprite. Maybe adding a small round white sprite overlapping Sonic will make it look better?

Oh yeah, I'm sorry. I didn't understand the problem. (I was thinking of another problem we have with spining)

With the new sprites, we aren't using anymore the rotation thing, so...

Yeah it looks wierd, and in the genesis games it was done by having about 3 or 4 rotation sprites, and a solid blue ball sprite and going:
Rotation Sprite 1, Solid, Rotation Sprite 2, Solid, Rotation Sprite 3, Solid, etc.

But I mean, that's my only real complaint. Everything else is brilliant.

    EDIT:
Ah cool, I look forward to seeing the new sprites in action :)

2 possible HUDs, eh? Well, seems like I'm a bit too late to cash in my idea - shrinking the original HUD. If by any chance you like the idea (see the attached hoaxed screenshot) I will gladly convert both these and the title cards / result screens if you want.

If so or otherwise, this is a great project - not only is it the first real classic Sonic project on the GBA, it is the first fan-made game to sport correctly designed loops. You would totally own SAGE with this demo.

Well, we already had this idea, for our hud. (In fact, I did the same hud, as your)
But we prefer the new one in italic.
