Yeah I tried searching for it using some of the words in Lobotomy's link, and I couldn't find it. Did the sale get pulled?
Apart from that, those controllers look somewhat horrible. Do we have any confirmation that these really are prototype/dev controllers?

Whatever the case may be, it's definitely set up pretty awkwardly. I've seen this controller design before, but it was for the Dreamcast, not the Genesis. I don't know, this seems too shady to be trustworthy. $500 for a controller? Come on.
The Sega logo on there doesn't look very well stylized. Sega used to love plastering on their fancy letters divided by lines logo back then, even if the contraption was a prototype. I'd advise against buying it, especially at $500.
The auction would be better if the seller didn't sound like such a turd. "it has detachable 2 pads to be held in 2 hands similar to Nintendo Wii !!! LOL." Seriously, which respectable seller says LOL in their auctions?
I don't buy this based on the recent comments for the seller, the last 5 sales he maid the item was never shipped. There's also the fact he types like a complete turd. Then the reason I think this is fake is because of the SEGA text.
This item is legit. Comes from a legit guy. I almost bought it, for $300, I was 5 minutes late with payment, lol. I know who bought it There's also another one in hands of someone I know.
