Literally just got the package after checking this thread! I gotta say, the box art looks much better in person.
Luckily I only have to traverse Straight Line Zone to get from work to the theater and to home, and there's only two lanes and no shoulder YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH (Plus it's Master's Week so most of our police are in the next county over)
Haven't even gotten a partial shipment for mine. This is so fucked up. I made the thread. Can't believe I'm getting cucked like this.
I just ordered mine. Budget shipping. Will get it when I get it, but I've waited 20 years for this, so I can wait a bit longer.
Ordered the new Fist of the North Star movie that Discotek put out in February and Sonic X got thrown in with the order too, so I got my shipping confirmation.
God, episode 20 is amazing. I'm somehow shocked how many genuine laughs it got out of me even though I've seen it before. Also extra shoutouts to 17, the one with Knuckles and Hawk, just cause it's really cool and it's difficult to rope Knuckles into a regular episode.
A question for those that own the original 4Kids DVDs... How many of those contain bonus features like commercials? I was planning on trying to buy new copies of those but since that would probably be expensive I want to prioritize the ones that do have extra stuff.
I bought almost all of them when they were coming out (stopped after SA2), and the most that were on there were just videogame trailers. One of the earliest opens with a Shadow the Hedgehog ad. I'm sure that was it, but I'd have to check.
Got mine Tuesday, a little before it was expected to arrive, and I love it so far. The packaging and art look great, and it's been fun going through the show again. I'd say I'm around episode 15, and since it's been quite a long time since I watched through, there are a couple of observations I've made: --It's kind of a slow burner, but then the baseball episode hits, and the show kind of finds its footing --Chris is actually kind of a little badass. We all gave him so much shit back in the day, but this kid just up and cock blocks Eggman from the first Emerald, and upon losing it, latches onto the Egg Mobile and doesn't let go until he has the Emerald in hand once again, a few hundred feet in the air. He's Tails' 2nd set of hands during the X-Tornado's maiden voyage, and causes ring energy to surge outside the plane to unfreeze Sonic while in the stratosphere. When Frances insists on tagging along to find the third Emerald and Eggman's fan robot shows up, Chris drags Frances away and protects her from the attack. He's all ears when it comes to any information about Emeralds or Eggman or animal people because he wants to help Sonic and his friends get back home. Maybe he gets worse as the show goes on, but so far, he's not the whiny scaredy cat I remember him being I'm getting close to some of my favorite episodes (the one with the cruise, and then the two-parter before Chaos shows up), which I'm absolutely stoked to watch subbed after all these years.
Just finished disc 1. Fitting episode to close that out. Also, honestly, might be the best way to experience the story of Sonic Adventure 2 coming back to this after about 5 years. Some musical cues are unfortunately lost (Live and Learn is a great touch, but kicks in too short too late for my tastes) but so much more context is provided and everything they expand on is to great effect.
Pretty much. The game's plot suffered from many of the cutscenes getting cut due to time constraints. The Sonic X SA2 adaptation, on the other hand, fleshed out the plot and adapted many of the deleted scenes, leading to a more coherent and complete story.
As someone who doesnt really purchase CD's (my only player I could even use this with is I think my ps4?), is there a digital equivalent of this? I would love to get the chance to properly check out a higher quality version of Donic X properly subbed that isnt using shaddy sites or poor uploads to streaming services
There's no digital equivalent at the moment and I don't know if this will ever end up on a streaming platform, which imo is doubtful. I'd recommend purchasing it anyway even if you only have an inkling of interest just because it's been publicly stated by the folks at Discotek that Sonic X is being evaluated for whether or not other shows like it will see tapped sought after for release. If this is something you like and you want more, now's your chance to vote with your wallet. I worked on the project and I still bought a final copy just to support!
Appreciate the insight! With that in mind, I went ahead and placed a pre order through amazon, if nothing else just to tell Sega that I like stuff like Sonic X, want it to get more support or new projects like more sonic anime. Plus its just very cool to see a proper high quality release of the japanese versions, ive wanted to go through the whole series for a while after being underwhelmed by the 4kids dub
