In figuring out which compositions are referenced in the many, many Daytona USA name entry jingles, I have reached a wall. As one who did not live through the games I have no natural sense of where any of these tracks come from, and was only really able to find out what I know through YouTube and the like. Anyone up for a little ego stroking? From the second set (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4JBEbHV6FY), I still need 2 more (#2 and #4). This is not really helpful, but I know one (or two? I don't remember) of them is from Super Monaco GP.... And that's about it.... (I don't remember which one, even) Why don't you list all the jingles you've identified with the time in which they appear there?
Funny, I considered doing the exact same thing that in retrospect. OK, I'll add them to my first post.
I just listened to them all, but sadly I don't think I can recognize any of them Maybe I even know some of those songs, but those clips are so short and rearranged that it's not easy to match them. The Columns one near the end of the third video is quite obvious, though.
Do the actual initials used to enter these help here? Pulled from the "Daytona USA B-Univ" album; 23 A.B 0:07 24 EXN 0:08 25 G.F 0:10 26 GLC 0:09 27 GPR 0:08 28 H.O 0:09 29 ORS 0:08 30 O.R 0:06 31 P.D 0:10 32 R.M 0:11 33 S.C 0:08 34 S.F 0:08 35 S.H 0:07 36 SMG 0:07 37 TOR 0:07 38 V.F 0:10 39 V.R 0:10 40 SHO 0:08 41 VMO 0:08 42 E.R 0:09 43 T.B 0:10 44 QTT 0:07 45 SDI 0:09 EDIT: Nevermind this. Ok, dug this set of initials up from a gameFAQs article; S.H(Space Harrier) A.B(After Burner) O.R(Out Run SEX LAU BNB DST E.R EXN GDA G.F GLC GPR DYN H.O KOS LGA J.M ORS P.D P.P QTT R.M S.C SDI S.F W.H SHO SKH SMG T.B TET TOR V.F VFT VMO V.R .KK DEK YAN M.M KOU HSB TAK KAZ ASA YOJ YUI NAK MIT OKA TRS H.S OSI JIM IGA ANI V.C K.J MAS KEN AKI ISO AO. I imagine several of the unknowns come from the likes of Burning Rival, Arabian Fight, F1 Super Lap etc. - early 90s arcade games Sega AM2 had a hand in developing but which aren't widely known because they never saw home ports. I already copied the list from GameFaqs http://segaretro.org/Daytona_USA#Cheats but they must be from the "first set". I had no idea there were more until this topic showed up god knows what this means to the likes of CCE, Deluxe, 2001 etc. I also noticed that the entire cast of Virtua Fighter 2 are in there apart from Dural (which I guess is expected) and... Shun. Could that be because Daytona USA came out before VF2 and Shun hadn't been invented yet?
Most likely. Also consider that Lion's theme is the only VF song there that actually -is- from VF2 (The rest are VF1 character themes), and it was very likely meant to be a teaser. EDIT: aliright, got one. 3rd set, 2nd piece (:07) is the Advertise song from Virtua Cop.
Fantastic work, guys! I knew I could count on you. =) @muteKi Strange. It came across me as something from Fantasy Zone. @Andlabs I thought that one came from Panic! @BlackSquirrel [first] The second one came across me as being from either Vermilion, Golden Axe or Phantasy Star. I guess I listened to these one too many times. :[ @BlackSquirrel [second] The two sets I put up were those exclusive to the Saturn version. If the soundtrack release is anything to go by, there are no name entry jingles in CCE, USA 2 or the 2001 remake (to anyone wondering, the 2001 remake's music is in the same arrangement as the original Arcade version, just without the original hardware limitations. It's kind of like what Mega Man Zero Collection did for the original GBA music). The "first set" is the one featuring those introduced in the arcade version (making it the only set for that version). Here's the arcade set (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXTydtqc7Ag). I didn't post it because I had it all figured out (thanks to the B-univ OST), but since I now know you have names on record (call me stupid for not seeing that before on either Retro or GameFAQs), I'll list them here for the sake of convenience. # Time Name------Game-----------Track 1 0:00 A.B -- After Burner -- After Burner 2 0:06 E.R -- Enduro Racer -- Opening 3 0:14 EXN -- F1 Exhaust Note -- BGM 1 4 0:21 F.Z -- Fantasy Zone -- Opa-Opa! Ah, as for guessing the names, here's some things that may help. It appears many of the VF character songs are titled in the character name initials. A.Y could be "Akira Yuki". J.B could be referring to "Jacky Bryant", and S.B. for "Sarah Bryant". J.M could be "Jeffry McWild". K.M could be "Kage Maru". W.H could be "Wolf Hawkfield". Course, not 100 percent on these, particularly since some are already named listed. *shrug*
OK, update time. @Kiddo Cabbusses Yeah, that's how it is. AKI and KAG must be for other things. Thanks to the GameFAQs list, I found the inspiration to look for and upload the music for Dunk Shot (that, and there was nothing up at all for it). In it I found two matches: "Team Select" (@0:00) and "Toast! (Round 2)" (@3:16). Naturally, "DST" is hooked to one of them. "Team Select" was #2 of the second set, so now that set is complete, names and all. That just leaves the big one left to focus on now, where "Toast!" is #14. I also found #11 of the big list to be "Title" from Alien Syndrome. 10 tracks (11 if you include the Strike Fighter track from the first set) and 30 names left to go (obviously, some of the names given are incorrect, as there are 40 left in the pool). Sooo.... anyone use a Saturn emulator with save states? Now's your chance to do a lot of damage very quickly. EDIT (10/03): I was informed that #15 on the big list is BGM 1 from Scramble Spirits. 9 (or 10) to go.
Still no luck, but a list of games that probably won't need checking. Just so you guys aren't retracing my steps. - Ace Attacker - Arabian Fight - Body Slam - Burning Rival - Clutch Hitter - D.D. Crew - Desert Breaker - ESWAT - Gain Ground - GP Rider - Hot Rod - F1 Super Lap - Last Survivor - Line of Fire - Rail Chase - Rough Racer - Shadow Dancer - Sukeban Jansi Ryuko - Title Fight - Tough Turf I'm relatively sure about these anyway. If there's been heavy remixing or music changes between regions I might be wrong.
I'd assume unless otherwise noted that any tracks used would be based on the Japanese versions of a game. I'm not entirely sure what soundtrack differences might come between regions other than that Sega CD games had it happen more than once (Off the top of my head, besides Sonic CD there was Formula One World Championship: Beyond the Limit .
Now that an arcade port of Daytona has been confirmed for PSN and XBLA, I wonder if all these little tunes will still be in there? I hope so.
