Ah, yes. Even the OTHER event editor view that MMF2 has is far more difficult to understand unless you actually understand how MMF2 works. On the other hand, Construct's events...

Construct's events are perfectly readable, can be more easily understood by new users, and works more like actual code - each event is like an if statement, with conditions and actions that occur when those conditions are fulfilled, and sub-events can be placed within events, which MMF2 is incapable of. As well, events can be organised into separate event sheets away from the layout event sheets themselves, which can be 'included' within the layout event sheets using the "Include Event Sheet" function, which is basically like actual programming as well, in a way, with classes.

Really, when I checked out Sonic Worlds, I discovered MMF2's event system, and I gawked with disbelief because it is just plain archaic, especially for a Construct user.

Oh, yeah, and add on to Construct 2's much-improved compatibility with collaborative projects, Construct 2 will apparently allow event sheets to be transferred between projects like libraries in actual programming, or so I heard.

    Construct 2 Revision 28 released!

Note that This revision requires a quick hotfix for collisions to work properly.

I played around in the latest release and it's pretty cool. The only feature that I'd like to see improved is when your writing out expressions. It would be cool to get a list of available functions and compatible instance variables with the expression you're creating without messing around in different windows.

Overall though, very powerful and very clean. Looking forward to following the development on this.

Funny, that's what Revision 29 is has, and more, unless I misinterpreted your post.

I can personally verify, using my family's iPad, that touch controls do work, and quite well.

That being said, on the same iPad, it ran rather slowly, for some reason.

Oh haha didn't see that. Very cool. That plugin will increase productivity significantly.

As for the slowdown, I would hope that could be resolved through some optimizations, though with Ashley's response it looks like the problem might not get fixed.

Just curious, what language is it built on?

The actual HTML5 exporter is javascript (and any plugins linked with it), while the IDE is C++ with OpenGL.

Ah, so the slowdown is probably in how HTML5 implemented the canvas, which would be out of reach from the developers.

Fixed or not, I'll be watching when Construct 2 becomes more fully fleshed out. It certainly has potential.

Right, so... The people have spoken, and the two next features to be implemented in Construct 2 will be:

    - Image Editor and Animations
    - Behaviours (possibly Custom Movement first)

These are the two I have really been waiting for, really. Once they're done, I can get started on porting Sonic Construct Worlds to Construct 2! A HTML5 Sonic engine is not so far away!

The devs are considering a possible liscencing model. While I like being able to get things for free as much as anyone, the Construct devs can only do so much for free. If they were able to work on C2 full-time, which means more frequent updates, well... I wouldn't mind paying, really. The reactions have been mixed, but everyone is trying to figure out a reasonable system for licensing that everyone is fine with.

Also, the 'free' version is basically like WinRAR and mIRC, a 30 day trial, with a bit of nagging on start up. That's basically better than GM and MMF2 right off the bat. The paid versions are mainly free updates for 2 years and, depending on the version, depends on how well your game sells, basically. As well, all official exporters will be free.

Wow, Firefox does not play nicely with HTML5. Thank goodness for webkit I suppose.

Apparently, Firefox 4 beta works VERY well with HTML5 now, though Chrome is one of the top three fastest browsers with HTML5.

Ash said that C2 would support WebGL... If IE supported it too. Unfortunately, knowing Microsoft, they may well decide to give the middle finger to web standards as usual for no good reason and make some kind of WebDirectX or something.

So does that mean it no longer has the annoying "watching a video in fullscreen and it freezes the visual every few seconds for a second before picking up where the audio presently is" bug? Because man, do I hate that. I had been noticing it in one of the demo games linked in here, too, even despite not being fullscreen; runs okay for a few seconds, framerate drops to single-digits for a second, runs okay for a few seconds more, lather, rinse, repeat.

Actually, if you enable hardware acceleration in Flash, the video never picks up again until you go out of fullscreen and back into it...

What bug? Never noticed it, myself.

    Anyway, release 31.

So much for open source. All my respect for this project just flew out the window.

I already mentioned that they were planning on going closed-source on the other page anyway. However, while I like free stuff as much as the rest of you guys do:

    * The devs are uni students working on this part-time. With an actual income from this, they can work on this full-time, which means more updates, more features, and better quality.
    * The free version has no restrictions, only a nag screen, and no DRM or whatever, and probably lagging behind in features by a few months. Aside from that, not much difference from what we've got now (Except for it being closed-source, but seriously, were any of you guys planning on messing with the source code?). Unlike Unity and GM, the free version isn't crippled.
    * The discount price is fairly cheap. Commercial pricing is only necessary if your game sells a ton. £599 future-proofed with 10 years of free updates is tiny compared to £20k revenue from a game.
    * They're also planning on a Minecraft-style "early adopter" pricing.

I think it would tick off far fewer people if they went with a model more similar to Ardour. Offer the app (with source code available) for free, but give people incentive to get the paid version by putting in plugins that you can only get by paying.

Well great now I feel kinda bad for what I said. Still, ticks me off, but I suppose it is still a very accessible program run by people who aren't evil tightwads like Adobe. I didn't even realize they were releasing an uncrippled free version, so I don't mind the change.

Wait, I'm confused. In the forums, I read that there was going to be a time-restriction for testers, and that the public versions, the stable ones that people who want to just do hobby game dev. might use, were going to need to be bought. Hell, I wouldn't mind a splash screen or even a watermark in my games, just so I have time to figure out if I want to use the program and if it can do everything I want it to.
