That hole the PA guy added isn't supposed to be there, the metal bar should fit in there without any empty space around it... Changes I'd make: -The middle stripe also needs to be changed sligthly to fit the perspective (revision #3 looked much better, now the body's alll deformed and out of perspective). -I'd darken the antennaes a little to make them look more like the original. -Perhaps the sting should be made a little fatter as in the sprite, more cannon-like.
It's using the hole copy-pasted from the front of the rockets as an example; if you look, the bit where the abdomen is connected to the rod joining the thorax on the unedited version seems to be pointing more toward the viewer than either the rockets or face. It's a badly-rendered example, sure; but one can see the point trying to be made; the abdomen has perspective issues.
DiscoKing, Attention needed regarding: 1) Antenna needing to be slanted forward more (notice how your blurred antennas look like vertical lines?) 2) Hole in upper parts of rockets need to be bigger (do notice that in the original concept - there's a cap there instead of a hole, but the rule of thumb is to follow the sprite design which looks like a hole =o) 3) The flame/exhaust needs to be fixed up to match the sprite flame version (use of a whip like flame instead of a soft puffy one) 4) The metal pipe holding the rockets needs to be brought down just a tad more to match the sprite Other than that - great work The above edits are not necessary - just "things" that others might bug you about

Can we keep the posts here project related, please? I mean, we all love jokes, but add them at the end of a relevant post at least :P
So that we can keep track of all the concept art and mockups that the project has received, I would like to ask all members to post them in this thread from now on. All concepts will be stored on the database under the "ConceptThread" section. The following are some of the most noticeable ones we have received so far: EHZ 3d Background by SANiK EHZ Grass by Blue Streak HTZ by StereoTypicalPickle EHZ Preliminary mockup by m_virtua EHZ Hills by m_virtua EHZ Hills and clouds (without flowers) by m_virtua EHZ Clouds by ICEknight EHZ Clouds & Water by BlazeHedgehog EHZ Chunk by Trunks, Neo, and uk_resistant EHZ Animated Flower by ICEknight and Hitaxas MZ by StereoTypicalPickle End Concept by Toot Toot Sonic Warrior http://sanik.hacking-cult.org/inker/data/1...onicwarrior.flv End Concept by Tokumaru http://sanik.hacking-cult.org/inker/data/1...tbyTokumaru.swf
Shouldn't the concept art be separate from the mockups? I'd have though putting both of them together would create more confusion than split apart? Also, what would you consider the difference between 'concept art' and AIP [Art in Progress]?
Mockups and concepts are basically the same thing. The Metropolis zone concept for example can help us get a few ideas when we eventually remaster the tiles. But it's not an "art in progress", because the actual tiles haven't been remastered. Its a mockup (pieces of art thrown together) for the purpose of displaying a concept of what the zone ought to eventually look like. We need a thread to keep all of the concept art discussion together, otherwise all our mockups and concepts are just going to be littered throughout the level art thread and side-track discussion of remastering the tiles.
Ok, I don't think we should have a CG background, because: 1) Dosent fit with the style of work so-far. 2) Looks nothing like the game. 3) The colours are nasty. (In comparison to the game).
Um, do we have any real examples of CG backgrounds at all? I'm not sure about how well it'll match our current artistic style, but there's no reason to think it could look similar or have the same colors. :|
I still think that Blue Streak's grass would be better on Hill Top Zone. It doesn't look right for EHZ, but I think it would look great on Hill Top, it fits right in.
I'm actually glad that you think it fits so well in HTZ and not EHZ. This project should make an effort to differentiate the two levels well beyond the palette swap.
I would like to apologize that I was so delayed in getting this one done, but at any rate... ...Here's my mockup of Chemical Plant Zone. The floating platform doesn't match the background very well because I made it long before anything else in the image. Back in the day I used a lot of point-click gradients for this type of thing, while nowadays I mostul use an air brush. (I understand that we're going to try to avoid using gradients, but creating individual shades for all the metal in the image would have take WAY too long, and this is just a mockup)
Oh wow... I am lovin' that!! Just needs to be a bit more crisp, but of course I understand this is just a mock-up. Wow, CPZ is one of my fav levels and this looks fantastic Can't wait for Casino Night Zone!
The background is perfect, but once again, I think the foreground looks too dirty/blurry. If you're going to give it texture, I'd suggest you make it a finer grain to keep it from looking like it was draw with frosting.
