The floating platform doesn't match the background very well because I made it long before anything else in the image. Back in the day I used a lot of point-click gradients for this type of thing, while nowadays I mostul use an air brush. (I understand that we're going to try to avoid using gradients, but creating individual shades for all the metal in the image would have take WAY too long, and this is just a mockup) [/quote] BG is really perfect!! And the platform on the upper right looks superb!! In this "metal"dome I think you can consider using gradients for the metal areas, and make everything on the foreground crisper Great work
That's a fantastic concept. For the buildings in the background, I think the illuminated windows might look even better if they had some sort of subtle "glow" effect around them.
Is that smoke in the background buildings? Are they burning? o_O It's not a bad start, but I'm seeing too many shadows that weren't in the original and make it look too much like a photoshopped pic (specially in the ramp). Also... please always attach a picture of the original, so people can compare side to side before commenting.

Which I think is really dangerous in a chemical factory. It's a shame we could never work out why it looked like the extreme background was on fire In response to the mockup, I like it a lot, but I agree that the windows of the buildings could do with some touching up to look more like they're lit from within.

I don't think they were aiming for an apocalyptic stage for the second level...

Genocide City....:P I think that the blue part of the ramp should sparkle more. It's great how clean the background looks though.
I'm always in a conflict with CPZ's raphics. The background looks great, the foreground too. They just don't go together at all! The BG would more be suited for a SLZ/SS-style highway/whatever stage whereas the foreground would be perfect in one of Robotnik's bases. But together they just look horrible.

OH MY GOD. Who made that? That's fucking amazing! (well, except for the shitty Sonic pose, but you get the idea...)
Oh, okay. Why the fuck is this man (woman?) not doing stuff for the project? I think he (she?) is exactly who we need to really get this project off the ground.
It would be a fantastic addition, level design would go on in a fantastic and quick way, judgin from the experience he seems to have in HD making. But I thought no one was able to contact this artist if I recall.. About that image, I really like much everything except Sonic. Why did he put the horrible Adventure design in a Retro contribute?!
Woah, he's the same guy that did this apparently: Looking at his gallery, he has a CNZ one too. http://alchemistdefined.wiredotaku.com/son..._wallpapers.htm
One word... WOW! That's the third heart attack I've had since this project began. Sign this person up right now!
I tried contacting him a couple of months ago, but I didn't get a response - hopefully this time will be successful. The glow effect he has on those chemical plant windows was what I meant - it's fantastic to see that someone had already made a mockup. I think the dusky clouds he has there also fit in very well with the mood of the level.
