Before reading this topic, go on and listen to the latest installment of the Retrocast. Are you done? Good. Now if you listened the whole way through, you may have noticed that mention of a chili dog contest was at the end. What with all the hype of Project Needlemouse and just the general promotion of old school Sonic, it only makes sense to walk back to Sonic's early obsession of chili dogs. So this is where we want YOU, the faithful Sonic Retro attendees, to try your hand at the only official Sonic the Hedgehog chili dog. For those who don't want to try and transcribe the recipe yourself, its been provided below: So now, the contest: we want you to show us just how awesome you can make this chili dog. You can take pictures, you can make a video and put it on YouTube, you can get really fancy and make it part of your latest rom hack - the only requirement is that you have to physically make it and, of course, eat it. Because Sonic would never waste a single chili dog. Unfortunately, since we can not taste each and every chili dog you make (and please, don't try to send them through the mail...they won't stay fresh, believe me) the judging will be based more on the visual than anything else. But that's why you have to eat it! If you die from it...well, then you won't win. The judging will be done by your friendly neighborhood Retrocast members, and the winner will win...something! And it will be fantastic! Better than Bentley Jones coming to your house, even!...maybe. You can't wait around to grow your own ingredients, though. You have two weeks from today to submit your entry - February 14th - and from there a winner will be announced during the next Retrocast! So get out those aprons, turn on the stove, and get cooking like the blue blur himself!
I would probably burn the house down trying this. Still, can't want to see the (inevitable) humourous pictures that result!
Oh snap, I'll have to make this now =P As odd as it sounds, that actually to me sounds absolutely delicious.
That sounds fucking delicious and I'm hungry as shit Maybe if I'm really lucky I have the ingredients to make these
Because of my tendency to screw up every dish I try to make, I'll have to sit this out, which makes me sad because I love chilli dogs almost as much as Sonic. I am however interested in seeing what everyone comes up with for the all-mighty chilli dog!
FFFFF I made chili dogs with a friend a few weeks ago and we were contemplating using that Archie recipe, but we ended up using good ole' canned chili as we didn't have everything and couldn't be bothered to cook it. Looks like I'm going to have to make chili dogs again. :v:
Now what the hell kind of chili for hot dogs uses beans?! Now THIS... is a chili dog... or actually, it's a coney. It's spiced differently, there's a bit of mustard (usually) on the 'dog, and optionally onions. The cheese is an ingredient, not a garnish.
Dude, I love a good Chillidog, I will totally try this and post pictures, I'll have to start bugging my mom for the ingredients, XD ...better have a fire extinguisher ready... =P
Sounds fun. I'll give it a go. Now, do we actually need to post pictures of ourselves eating them or can we use ones of us keeled over in gastric pain on the floor?
Now I wish I could cook things. I could try this, but I'd rather not burn down my kitchen. Though that may be part of the fun...
This sound delicious! Now I'm gonna to have to try making this! All those years of doing Home Ec in secondary School weren't for nothing!
Fuck yes, Skyline. I'm an Ohio native, so I know those dogs are the only way to go. Edit: Upon examination of this recipe... Keep in mind I'm an amateur chef in my spare time.. I would like to note that it can be improved by the addition of cinnamon (1 tsp.), allspice (1/2 tsp.), unsweetened cocoa powder (1 tbsp.), and cayenne pepper(tsp.). Also the kidney beans should be an optional garnish, while cheese is a necessity, as are mustard and a sprinkle of raw chopped onions.
Ok, this weekend, I'll give it a try, Do someone wish videos or photos? I love cooking, hope they taste great.
Just have to mention that Sally's hands in the last panel look totally deformed and that the pie looks like a radioactive pile of bad semen and whipped cream. :specialed: With some free time coming up, I'll definitely try to contend in this contest. As a side note, a friend of mine has recommended sautéing the mushrooms, peppers and onions.
The jokes in the early issues were very corny, and little comics like this were common, with Sonic doing something and Sally setting up the joke. As the comic aged, around issue 20, they started to only offer 1 or 2 stories (typically Knuckles-related) and took a more serious tone. Mind you, the 'Off Panel' part has brought back the mini-joke comics. This, along with the recipe comic, were neat little additions back then, but they just wouldn't fit now-a-days. I really can't see the Iron Queen and Snively telling a recipe for their favorite hamburger. :v: Also, inb4 'how did the burrobots find Knothole', but that's for another topic.
Remember, Sonic the Hedgehog #1 came out way the hell back in 1993. Corny jokes and non-sensical stories were the name of the game.
