I've just found some text graphics saying things like: LEVEL GO FOR GOAL RECORD FINISH They're between ~0x22601B-22941B in the same format as the words I found a while ago inside the final version (which said CLOCK, etc). I can't post a picture because I can't get SpriteView to open in a window since I stopped using Windows 98. Also, in XP I can't use my old RAW image viewer to look for more stuff. =\
Now that you mention it, I don't know how I missed that! I guess I was too distracted by Charmy's head being orange rather than black to notice. =P
0x1F58BE: Graphics for each act's number. Use FxGfx-L4 or Linear 8 modes in Sprite View to see. 0x1EE8D6: This looks like the background for one of the pre-boss scenes *Width: 128, Format: N64 High 0x1C6BD0: Wierd chamber with clouds? *Width: 128, Format: N64 High 0x14A8D0: Stuff that zooms in in the Bonus Stage. 0x16855B: Looks like a head (Knuckles' perhaps?) Since the format is wrong, it's quite deformed. *Width: 72, Format: N64 High There's also some of Vector's jumping sprites from the Special Stage just like in the final, as well as the Robotnik icon from the end of level signpost, somewhere in there. Somebody please do the honors of making some pics of this, since I can't as I said before.
This proves once and for all, that Sonic and Tails were in fact in Chaotix 32x at some point of development: http://trash.drx.pl/chxed1207.rar - a special version of JJF's Chaoxed that supports all the 32x art in 1207, compiled by me. In the final, "*******" uses Knuckles' art as well as Knuckles' palette. In this proto, however, the tails 32x palette is intact! This means that Sonic and Tails were in fact ported over to 32x, along with new art and palettes. My guess is that they were scrapped when Mighty got inserted. Another fun note is that all the 32x art here is uncompressed, in final most of the static art uses the C42 compression, which I was going to crack soon, but since it's not needed anymore, I don't have to, haha! You might be able to find some new sprites, everything that uses the 32x VDP is viewable using this version.
Awesome, now we just need someone to make a Tails using that palette =D Is Sonic's palette still in there?

Did this game ever show any Flickies and the other little animals? I never got the good ending, so I don't know... There's the usual animals in there, although the chickens look a bit wierd. They were possibly using Sonic's palette (they look horrid with Mighty's). Also, there's a water splash starting at 136F28,139B40 and bubbles at 136F28,139B08): Omg water levels?
That's the water splash from Sonic 1... and it was only ever used in Sonic 1. Interesting that they'd put THAT one in there.
