    I DONE MAKED GAMES.
Honestly, Camel Try alone is worth the asking price.

I dug out my copy today, gave Cleopatra Fortune a shot. Always a game I overlooked as a 'shit Columns clone' - but apart from annoyingly only having clockwise rotation of the pieces, it's actually pretty damn good! So yeah, I'm sorta hype for the eventual dumping of the Bros. here! :)

Really just wish this guy could take some on screen pics rather than this snap a pic with a camera garbage.

  4. The image quality isn't shit, and he could have just have kept this whole thing to himself. Appreciate the fact that we even know what it looks like now and just wait for it to be dumped. Patience.

Calm down there. No its not low quality it's just not as high as it could be, and the above comment is fair but I think he's proved it's real at this point. I'm not even asking for a dump just 1 or 2 clean pics to look at (mainly the title screen).

  7. What exactly are you looking for then? These pictures are clean. We also do have 2 pics. One of said title screen and one of main gameplay. :v:

Yeah, it's not like a screengrab is gonna be pixel perfect anyway. The camera shots are just fine until it gets dumped.

So, from what I gathered, based on everyone's collective knowledge, is this was made in 1992, possibly predates Sonic 2, is a puzzle game along the lines of Cleopatra's fortune, meant for one or Two players, and has eluded the Sonic community for 20 years.

Well, let's see what happens on the dump, and hope for the best. Let's see what Datamining will bring up.

Speaking of which, when are we getting a dump of this? He hasn't posted anything more about it on my tumbler.

Apparently he's unable to release it, if he does he will no longer be able to get rare games: http://forums.bannister.org/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=104064#Post104064

So we're probably not going to be able to play the game for some time. That being said, apparently Shou did confirm on ASSEMBler that the rom has been dumped. So while it can't be released, it has been preserved, which is the most important thing.

This should probably be repeated cause a lot of you might have questions about this (I certainly do): please don't bother Shou with questions about the game's release. Again, you're not the only one with those questions and a ton of people asking him about it could backfire.

If he releases it, he won't be allowed to get any more prototypes?

Damn hoarders controlling the market. (Not Shou, to be clear - he's dumped it, so as far as I'm concerned, he's cool. More the people insisting these prototypes be subject to bitrot sooner than the filthy plebs get to try them.)

That's a shame that it can't be researched in further detail by the community. HOWEVER he's done a fantastic job, and yeah, as long as its preserved, that's the important thing. And as an added bonus, he also is doing a good job of documenting it as well, so we at least have a good understanding of the product.

While it's great that the ROM has been dumped, that sounds an awful lot like blackmail from the hoarding community to me.

Because it basically is. Hoarders are happy to think their silicon carts have value when it's simply the data on them. Those carts are also rotting and the data will eventually be corrupted and worthless on them.

So yeah, enjoy those silicon husks. Maybe melt them down one day for a fake companion doll.

Call me crazy, but isn't blackmail illegal? Or is it somehow not illegal in this case because it's on the Internet?

Its not really blackmail though, the hoarding scum are saying they are gonna blacklist him and let their friends know too he'll basically be a pariah and if he wants to keep his rep he keeps his mouth shut. blackmail in a sense, but only to his reputation.

I'd like to know the group who threatened him.

Blackmail is blackmail. They're (And by "they", I can only guess it's the staff of Assembler or the person/group that sold him the proto board) basically telling him "If you release the contents of that proto, which you legally own and can do anything you want with it, we'll either ban you from our site or blacklist you from ever buying protos through our channels again".

If that's not the epitome of fucking sketchy, I don't know what is. I'm drawing some serious Indiana Jones comparisons here.

Retro: "IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!"
Assembler: "No it's mine I found it it came to me"

Not really blackmail, more likely he got it from a source that already made it clear they'd prefer it not be shared, and not sharing would encourage them to hook Shou up with more in the future. Why? Who knows, but still, this is one of the furthest things from blackmail possible. It's a personal agreement between two people.

Also that's giving Assembler too much credit :P Sure lots of people there own neat stuff, but Shou is not only based in Japan but seems to be continuously getting lots of neat unreleased arcade titles. Probably a connection that's based in Japan and not a regular member of known communities. Wouldn't be surprised if it's actually the treasures of some old arcade that it's owner held onto all these years. Would explain why it's so many unreleased arcade games, many which I'm guessing are like SegaSonic Bros. and were tested before failing to perform well, resulting in their ultimate demise.

Well, fun to guess anyway. Who knows.
