Blue Blur: Sonic Generations Original Soundtrack

  1. I'll probably be going back to 4shared, as that was my backup for when Megaupload was being a bitch or unavailable.

So after listening to the soundtrack for the first time, I can definitely say that Naofumi Hataya should be used significantly more in the franchise and it's been way too damn long since Richard Jacques was hired to make Sonic music...oh, wtf? He did a lot of music for Sonic & the Black Knight and the main theme for Sonic Free Riders? Why did they keep sticking him with the shitty games? o_O I absolutely love the soundtrack to Sonic 3D Blast and a lot of his work in Generations is just fantastic. However, while I really like the Time Eater music, it's definitely nowhere near as memorable as a lot of other last boss battle music in 3D Sonic games.

Only big problems I have with the soundtrack are the loss of the commercial samples in the Super Sonic Racing remix and the fact they took out the intro to the Metal Sonic boss battle music. Why would SEGA do this? D: Those were the most epic parts of those remixes. Taking out the samples in the Super Sonic Racing remix reminds me of what Sonic CD's intro music is like without vocals. Yeah, the music is still there, but it feels like something is missing which damages both songs very badly. I have no idea why SEGA would choose to do that for the Generations soundtrack. Makes absolutely no sense. Then with the Metal Sonic boss battle music, taking out the buildup just makes the remix sound a lot less epic. :/

In fact, if you die on the MS battle the music plays without the intro.

    I prefer that version actually.

Since I never said anything before hand, my main beefs with this soundtrack are the Circuit Freq. mixes (they are dreadful, actually), and Casino Night sounds a bit muddy to me, but otherwise I think it's fantastic. One of SEGA's better things as of late.

  5. I like the soundtrack but the mastering is getting worse and worse with each release. Loudness war and all that. Can't stand listening to some of these tracks, the bass seems to be boosted way too high on some of them. I didn't mind the removal of samples, it's not like they're taking away our game rips.

  6. Tell me about it. How much more will it take for this "loudness war" to stop? When every song has major clipping issues?

Huh. Although genre-specific, most of these have louder sections between -10.5 and -12dBRMS. That's nowhere near loudness war material at all.

That being said, a -lot- of tracks have significant low-end issues, leaning towards to excessively boomy side below 150Hz.

edit: And then I run into Rooftop Run Act 2 which is sitting at a whopping -8.5dBRMS and is audibly pumping. You're absolutely right then, the mastering on this is inconsistent as hell as a whole. :|

So, my album came in from Jun Senoue.

I don't want to open it. :( It's too pretty.

Did he sign the packaging instead of the physical manual or something?

Not the outside sleeve, but the inside one. Sticker page included too. I got #57... or #51. One of the two.

Only the first 50 were supposed to get stickers, so I'm inclined to say neither....

  12. The actual album comes with a sticker, not just something JS threw in.

Yeah I wonder what the stickers were for the first 50 that got theirs. Can anyone share that got it?

I am glad to get mine. My only criticism has to do with the packaging - getting the informational booklet out was a pain in the ass.

Nothing special. Mostly some of the game's official character art.

Any chance you can upload that in FLAC? >_> Nice job btw.

  16. I edited together a fourth disc a little while back. This disc contains pretty much everything that didn't make it into the original soundtrack - new synth remixes too. It was made from the rip of the XBox 360 version done by Alpha23 on FFShrine, so props to him. I deliberately made a couple of the speed-up tracks shorter (Seaside Hill and Planet Wisp) while City Escape Act 1's Speed Up is combined with a non-Ad-Lib version. I also neglected to include the game version startup to Stardust Speedway, but I think that was more by accident than by design.

!!!!! over at FFShrine put together an amazing soundtrack, featuring both album versions and gamerips. This is the one that gets by far the most play on my iPod.

Brought that up along time ago, Retro doesn't like signing up for stuff :(.

Anyways, can you explain why you renamed the Synth mixes "TARGET Remix" Beta?
