Post-2015 Sonic Hacking Contest update: revision $20D is out. Changes: Fixed controls screen; Playing a new song no longer kills SFX; this fixes the sucking-in sound in the starting cutscene being overridden by the emerald jingle (a bug that was added by accident to the contest versions, as previous builds worked fine...); Boss Fish timers are also slowed down by the effects of speed shoes used against him; Fixed a frame-perfect bomb use causing doubled badniks (found by Johnny on stream); Contest URL removed as the contest is over; Arcade Mode and Time Attack now increase music tempo progressively as time wears out; Stored powerups persist from one level to the next in arcade mode; Should you manage to rescue Froggy without destroying the Boss Fish, the ending cutscene will feature Super Froggy versus Boss Fish; Fixed bug causing an emerald graphic to appear if an invincible badnik is fished out (found by djohe on netplay) In the 2015 Sonic Hacking Contest, the following trophies were won + - because Sonic 1: The Next Level was not eligible for them :v:/> Dust Hill Trophy: 3rd place Tails Trophy: Most improved hack from last year's contest Wing Fortress Trophy: Best cutscene in a hack submitted
So, I was playing the newest version on hardware, arcade mode, alternate music. Anyway, I reached Palmtree Panic, and when the level loaded, the big badnik-making machine appeared garbled. This wasn't gradual, or anything; it stayed like that. As you can see, at least one frame loaded correctly. This went away on the next level. (Also, Sky Sanctuary in 0'11"67.)
I must say... my god, those Big's sprites are insanely good, are they pre-rendered? They look pre'rendered. They have to be pre-rendered. Oh, they aren't? Really? They still look like. E22-Psi, you are a bloody genious.
Nah, they're just very nicely done and made by E-122-Psi. He always makes some of the best Sonic sprite sheets for hacks, I say.
Pre-rendered is a nonsensical term in that context. That said, this is the most fun I've had with a Sonic hack in years. <3
Revision $20E is out, fixing rare real-hardware DMA glitches. This is probably what caused Clownacy's issue above. This is related to this issue, although there were more issues than just the DMA queue.
Is there something up with Eggman's 'I caught something' animation? He seems to throw his lure out twice, and it's confused me more than once during multiplayer.
So, I was playing Time Attack, and the music sped up around 6 minutes in. It struck me as odd for it to happen so early. The same Time Attack playthrough was done with Alternate Music enabled, and, after dying several times, this one level's music went back to its default until I died again. The level was the SCD special stage. To top it all off... This happened when I completed an Arcade Mode playthrough, which started immediately after completing the Time Attack one. This happened the moment the results screen music began playing.
Were you holding A button when the level started to load again? Basically, after fade out but before fade in? I finally found out what was going on (a mistargetted branch); so there is a new revision to fix it: revision $214.
Sorry for the huge bump. This isn't just a “here's a video”, but it demonstrates a bug that you might be interested in seeing. I haven't seen anyone else mention it in the topic. At 10:04 in this video, an emerald just randomly appears in the top right of the screen. We didn't notice it and it disappeared in a few seconds. At 12:25, the exact same thing happens, but another emerald also appears in the water on the right hand side, clearly visible (with the other one in the top left corner again). They both disappear a few seconds later again. But that's why I thought it be worth a bump. We did download the ROM from the SHC2015 site, so you may have fixed it since then, but just in case. Anyway, I present to you MarkeyJester vs redhotsonic at Big's Fishing Derby. http://youtu.be/7kSZ9oHQKBY Link

Shit, must have missed that. Ah well, I'll add an annotation into the video to say that it's been fixed since.
Well, I'm doing a review on this in a video I am currently making (as well as all hacks that won a trophy in SHC2015) and then my thoughts on what to expect in SHC2016 (not from you personally, flamewing =P). I'll keep you posted on that, because I have a lot of pros, and very little cons.
How are you surprised? Surely you, the creator of the hack, is aware that the hack you made is awesome?
If I were a game creator, I would like to know what's wrong with my games so I can see if there is something I can do about it. Maybe it is a design flaw, maybe not, but I still would like to know.
