Better Sonic 2 (2013) Maps

Discussion in 'General Sonic Discussion' started by ZachmanAwesomenessIII, Jul 22, 2024.

  1. Years ago, I have seen the few level maps that were from Sonic 2's mobile remaster on the Sonic Retro wiki. The changes made to the zones were rather interesting, including additions to the layout for the other playable characters and altered sections to accommodate for the widescreen aspect-ratio. Now I think they look outdated and a little bit sloppy, so I decided to rip the maps from the game using SonLVL-RSDK, which is a RSDK-friendly version of SonLVL sporting new features and quality-of-life stuff. What follows are only the maps themselves with no objects. I'll post the versions of the maps with the objects at a later date. While the layouts are fundementally identical, the overall structure either appears slightly different or there are new sections added.

Kicking things off, here's the remastered layouts of Emerald Hill Zone! Enjoy!
    Made with SonLVL-RSDK.

Act 1 - Just some chunk modification in a few places and some of them are duplicated but the collision is different.

Act 2 - Same as previous, but an extra flat chunk is added where the final checkpoint is.

For what it's worth, one of the games that really needs this is Sonic CD Origins DLC version.

Those level changes need to be documented, and badly. I've studied and compared them myself for my own version of new paths in the SCDME Expanded Stages Mod (some of which are inspired by the changes in Origins, some of which are new designs of my own), but no one else to my knowledge has ripped maps of the official versions as of yet.

  6. I fully, whole-heartedly agree, despite that the new additions Origins Plus made to CD's maps look sloppy.
