Yea, they also could've put GCZ except renamed it.

Either WPZ or Sonic 2's HPZ. The other ones weren't even ported into the BETA, so they must have stunk. Or maybe Dust Hill, because lots of people copy it in the fangames, and it's VERY popular now, so maybe it could've made it to the final. ^_~

Nothing that concerns this place in the least.
I dunno, it's kind hard to decide...

    The dreaded Genocide City.

I think that should've been the last level.

Sega`s always been more liberal then Nintendo. So it`s not surprising to see the word Genocide in a Sega made game. What if Sega actually made the level look horribly vile and full of gore.(waterfalls of blood, dead hedgehog bodies on the ground.)That would scare the hell out of children who bought the game, but at the same time would attract teens towards the system cause it looks more "mature" then the SNES.

:wtf: First of all, it's THAN. Not THEN. And second, don't you get me started. That whole "kiddie system" factor is just a load of crap. That's why we have the PICO. If it's rated E, it's rated Everyone. Nobody even liked SEGA anymore, eversince the fall of the Dreamcast. And don't even get me started with the Saturn. Hence, the reason, Sonic is now Liscensed by Nintendo in the newer games.

    Here's an equation for you:

E=(no, not MC square, Einstein) Everyone; Everone = Kids 'bout 5+, teenagers, and adults. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A KIDDIE GAME unless it's PICO, or you see the EC sign on it. And ya know why? BECAUSE OF SONY, PC, AND XBOX! Back in the day, there was a little something called a "mascot". Nintendo had the SSB:M crew, and SEGA had Sonic Team's stuff. Mascots built the back-bone of VG history. And now, since the non-user-friendly community has formed, we've got people saying that SEGA and NINTENDO are both kiddie companies. Mind you about gore, Wyvernlord, what about Samus?

Yeah...I think I'll keep my distance from the ratings/GCZ/PICO arguement...

Anyways, I believe that in the way of dropped levels, HPZ takes the cake. Even though its 1)One of the most completed Canned levels we seen and 2)Had a pretty good layout/graphics design, I found it to be the most interesting because it could have actually had a plot behind it (well possibly), which was something that the Sonic series was lacking before S3&K hit. All the other levels left on the cutting room floor were just levels, and those weren't even that exciting of levels.

And oh yeah, judging by my post count, I am new to the forums :P .

I think they could've kept it, kinda like a special level if you didn't beat the game with all emeralds, and instead of that big emerald, there could've been a rock, so it wouldn't interfear with the S3&K storyline. Or maybe Robotnik would come and grab the big emerald like he did in S3&K, but you think he's helping you, and it could've been at the end of the level. Here's what happens: Right before you enter the Death Egg, Sonic falls down instead of Tails catching him. The stroyline is that you fall into a deep cave, so you end up in HPZ. If you didn't get all the emeralds, Robotnik would have a laser with the emerald in it like S&K added to his suit, and do the same thing, but he'd fly from side to side while trying to crush you like he does normally. But his arms would come off and the music would change after you beat the real boss. So he'd only shoot you each time he came down. That'd be pretty cool... *slapped out of day-dreaming* Oh, sorry about the rambling. :P

Never in my life have I seen an EC sign on a game. (Even the N64 Elmo game didn`t get it.) At the time of the 16-bit era game consoles were generally targeted towards kids (it`s the truth honest to god.) Don`t get me wrong Nintendo makes great quality games (I forgot about Metroid which is one of my favorite series.) but if I had a choice of putting my money in a bank owned by Nintendo or one owned by Sega, I`d stick with Sega.(Have you seen the very EARLY screenshots of Super Mario 64. I don`t recall any of those areas in the final. And if someone found the prototype of the game on the internet,Nintendo would have the FBI on their ass in 3 days due to violating their "copyrights" )It seems ever sense the playstation hit the market, 80% of video game cencering had been tossed out the window. This has nothing to do with the topic so I `m going to stop right now.

It`s a shame that such an intresting and nice looking level had to get canned. Why Sega? Why? Canning such an intresting looking level and sparing an incredibly bad level that reuses tiles from the first level isn`t an accident, it`s a sin. In short, Hidden Palace should have been spared.

And yes I`am a Hill Top Hater

    HPZ.

Yanno, I had a weird dream last night about it. I was beta testing Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and the game glitched while loading FRZ A 4. Instead of taking me to the crappy Hidden Palace, it took me to the original, complete with the graphics(flashing lights, sparkling bridges, etc), every single Badnik from the Beta(and the Rhino one too), and the cavernous back ground(only more of a blue color then purple or indigo). It played a slightly different version of MCZ 2 Player, with an instrument being replaced by synthesized guitar picks. Fully playable, too.

Back on topic, it was the very best level in a Sonic game I ever played. Why did they can it? Who knows, who knows...

Well erm....I see this is going somewhere. Anyway,I've heard rumors (LOOONG time ago) that HPZ was complete RIGHT before the Beta we know and have, strange, very strange.

  17. I personally think HPZ, since it was so close to completion

I don't know what the Labyrinth Level was like, only people that have hacked savestates know that there is a missing level never mentioned before in a magazine or any other source. I have a Game genie Code that will allow you to go there. If anyone wants it, please tell me.

I think the reason HPZ was taken out was because the artwork was done by an american, if you think about it all of the american who did the level artwork never was made to the final (except OOZ zone), But then agian we may never know.

Anyways back to the topic, I would like to see HPZ completed instead of the HPZ in S&K.
