http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvP4EFjagfU Noticed that discussion of this game was being kept to the Wii U thread, while really it's still a SEGA game. So making a thread for it in here. There's a demo on the eShop if you want to see just how incredibly good this game is. So far reviews are extremely positive, perfect scores from Destructoid, Gamespot, Edge and Joystiq. Most other scores are at least near a 9/10.
Edge gave it a 10, but I'm thinking they think it's not a SEGA game? Why the fuck does no one remember that Bayonetta is a SEGA IP?
Because it was very public that there wasn't going to be a Bayo 2, then when it DOES happen it has Nintendo plastered all over it?
Yeah, it's not a secret that Bayonetta 2 was once in development without Nintendo as the publisher, with SEGA eventually cancelling(?) the game and Nintendo funding it. It's still a SEGA IP though, and the game still has SEGA name on it. There are also SEGA references alongside its Nintendo references. For example (late game spoiler): + - there's an After Burner segment. This segment also turns into a Star Fox segment if you use the Fox McCloud costume
I'm so excited for this game, especially because I haven't spoiled like, any of it for myself. Taking a gamble here, but I think it'd going to be worthwhile.
As someone who only had a Wii last generation, I'm really happy the game includes the first game while still being a good price, because this was the kind of game I was looking for and I get two of them at once. The demo was fun, but my only problem is the guns on holding down the attack buttons instead of a separate button (is the A button being used for anything important?). And what the hell is up with that touch control option? Yeah, it's just an option, but why would they put it in when I guarantee at least 95% of people playing it are going to use the buttons?
http://www.game.co.uk/en/bayonetta-2-first-print-edition-only-at-game-206923 Game.co.uk seem to have first print edition available for pre-order again, £59.99 (opposed to the £140+ skyping on ebay and Amazon)
...rarely has a game so quickly gone from interesting curiosity to I should be playing this right now as when I read that spoiler.
I can't find a citation for this anywhere now, but legend has it when and Sega began to have their little financial crisis which changed what games they would concentrate on in the future a couple of years ago, Sega had to make a decision between pulling the plug on Bayo 2 or Aliens: Colonial Marines to save money. Imagine how much less Internet butthurt would exist, from Bayo and Aliens fans alike, if the decision had gone the other way.
I played the demo and was left extremely impressed. At some point, I should definitely get this game. I should also check out Devil May Cry 3 at some point.
If I recall correctly, there was a game journalist (I believe someone from Game Informer) who said that they were going to cover Bayonetta 2 before Nintendo was publishing it and not just for Wii U. And if SEGA cancelled the game at some point, it might have been when they said that they were just going to focus on specific franchises (Sonic, Aliens, Total War and Football Manager) for retail games. That might have been just SEGA of America though.
It sold 1.31 million copies in US and Europe in the financial year that it launched. Can't imagine that it sold much more after launch.
Hmm...Bayonetta sold 1.25 million if I remember correctly. We all know why they would pick Aliens in this case though assuming the stated rumor is true.
Pre-orders, people were hyped for the game before it came out. SEGA also marketed it a lot and of course there are the Aliens fans. It probably would have sold a lot more if it was actually a good game. That also wasn't the first time SEGA put out an Alien game that wasn't all that well received and still sold well. The 2010 Alien vs. Predator game sold 1.69 million in its financial year. Though I guess it helps that people actually like that game going by the Steam reviews.
