Seeing as you liked that one, I uploaded The Poet II and Good Ending too. Most MIDIs I've found are unusable, because they use pitchbending far beyond the threshold that most DAWs can handle. I managed with these three, though. Also, I joined the forum, because I can.
These files are too large for me to download but the I got to listen to them at least. (I'm not using dial up either btw.) My connection problems I'm beginning to think are security related with some setting I'm not allowed to change without proper access. I love both remixes. Poets II seems kind of slow though. It could just be me though. The Good Ending remix has an epic feeling to it though which sounds unique and awesome. edit: What the hell? This thing's gonna eventually go Sega CD anyways, right? (assuming I find time to research Sega CD hardware anyway.) Might as well record some higher quality voice effects right? It sounds fun to do but at the same time, the voice effects are kind of iconic and it would make me feel as low as Sega of America. On the plus side, it could be kind of fun to see how true to the originals I can be and how high quality they can be at the same time. Luckily, I will never stoop as low as SOA and force Axel to shout "Bare Knuckle!" though. He will be saying "Grand Upper!" However, perhaps I should share the samples after I'm finished and you guys can be the judges.
If it helps, I converted the VGMs to MIDI with two different converters. The second one does not have batch processing (it's not command line), so I did not do all of them. If they are better than the first conversion, let me know, and I'll do the rest. sor3_vgm2midi.zip
Thanks, man. We appreciate this greatly. Anyways, about the new CD quality voices, what do you guys want me to do? Leave the current voices in the game or make brand new ones for CD quality? (note, I won't be able to do female voices. However, my voice is not fully matured. yet despite the fact I reached puberty at 12, I still sound like a 13 year old boy going through a voice change. As a result I can very easily make a little kid voice for Skate and I'll try to make it sound as black as possible. ( I don't guarantee getting him to sound black though.) On a different note, creating a disassembly of Bare Knuckle III is somewhat challenging because it is severely hard coded. Adding new code breaks things because of this. Red Crimson is working on this. In case you are wondering, I don't do the ASM work. However, with Red Crimson's guidence, I was able to change the offsets that triggered certain events of the Round 6 lost areas and also accessing the bike stages after round 6 is complete. Aside from that I've discovered quite a few unused gems in the BKIII Rom. The unused title screen animation is kind of a strange story as I was messing with values of the Secret level select code. I was taught by Red Crimson that the value in this code could warp to different sequences and events in the game. I fooled around with it for a bit and although this wasn't one of them, I did manage to get the Lightning to strike the BKIII logo on the title screen. There's a true PAR code that enables it that was made some time later by cabo hicks that enables it to show up correctly without problems. This title screen will eventually be implemented.
The first set doesn't work in anything except Windows Media Player for me. I can't even open them in a MIDI editor. The second set suffers from having mismatched tempos, a bar in the MIDI does not correspond to a bar in the original music. However, I can work around this. Turns out the different channels don't even play back at the same rate in most of them. Are there any other ways of getting the MIDIs?
You're sure. I think that the strange fact is that BKIII uses a different style of music. But not so bad. I like it a lot, so it has lots of awesome music in my opinion. The only bad thing in this game that make me agree on the majority is that this game has the worst playability from the series. But, the game is OK for me. I'll download the hack. So I'll comment about this hack here soon.
You could have Tweaker or someone make one but you'd have to beg lots since most of the people on these boards that know how to make MIDI's don't like SOR at all. Either that or they just aren't interested. Also, the thread you posted on SOR Online doesn't seem to exist even though it clearly does. Is that how the newly registered members are supposed to work? I came before they invented that usergroup so I don't really know a lot about it.
SOR3 soundtrack is fun to listen to on its own, but it's an abomination as videogame music (with a few exceptions). SOR2 soundtrack is fuckwin in-game, but not that awesome on its own. Also, many tracks were ripped off other tracks.
From what I've seen, Tweaker uses the MIDIs the same way I do. The people to ask are RAMPKORV and Jace, although, as you said, most people on these boards don't like SOR. I'll transcribe them myself when I have lots of time to spare. Apparently, all Newly Registered Users are required to make a validation post to prove they're not a bot. The thread shows up now, and will probably do something weird before being completely ignored. I couldn't agree more. I think the reason SOR3 soundtrack doesn't work in-game is due to the arrangement more than the tune itself. Some of the tracks sound like they'd fit better into a racing game.
Well... it's still the only official SoR2 style Adam you'll ever find. Better than nothing, and a decent sprite sheet to start working from anyway.
Unfortunately, I'm terrible at editing sprites. In other news: I figured I'd share a few of voice samples I've been working on for fun that might be implemented into PCMs and Redbook tracks. (the ones that would be used as redbook tracks will be the cutscenes.): http://www.mediafire.com/?djmiywryzyy http://www.mediafire.com/?nyi1mmz2ofl http://www.mediafire.com/?dzdmjgxyfnb http://www.mediafire.com/?2m2vnn1wjnj http://www.mediafire.com/?ljeno1jmnz1 http://www.mediafire.com/?zuwmnyutmwu Let me know what you think. I tried to make them as close to the voice samples of the coresponding characters and I also decided to recite the text from the BKIII opening sequence. Cutscenes and other voice bytes will be worked on later if you guys like these. If not then I won't. The Axel yell is my favorite.
GRAND UPPER! I don't think the opening sequence text should be read out at all. To me, it's something that appears on screen and nothing else.
Intro voice over is horrible. Don't implement it. Death cry and final crash are bad. The rest are surprisingly close to the original though I can't say I like them. Probably because of the above three.
I agree the intro voice is horrible. For some reason when I recorded it, the first instance of "element" sounded like "relement" for some reason even though I know I said it correctly while recording. I want a few other peoples' input before I decide to shitcan the voices but I agree about the ones you said were horrible.
Sorry about the MIDIs. I opened set 1 in SynthFont, and it removed a lot of bad NoteOn commands. Then I resaved them. sor3_vgm2midi_2.zip If they still don't work, it's either because the VGM2MIDI program added working loop timing to the MIDIs, or it may be because some are huge (Inga Rasen is 2.2 MB!). Try Dance Club or Round Clear; they're small. Also, remember that voices ? red book audio. They would have to be PCM. Sonic CD and Shining Force CD both do this. In fact, the audio that plays for both Sonic CD cutscenes comes from the PCM chips, not the CD tracks.
Some of them don't work, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with size. The ones that work still suffer from mismatched tempo, but the tracks line up with each other this time, so I can work around that. Thanks for the MIDIs!
The Sega CD game Hook would like to have a word with you Mister. These aren't FMVs. These are the ingame Text cutscenes. I can put them in as redbook because the cutscenes in BKIII are text based. I wanted to add voice acting to them for the Sega CD port. Anyways, not all those voices listed above will be used for Cutscenes. Just one of the ones above. The others WILL have to go as PCM because they are used as Sound effects. Edit: Also, if anyone would like to audition for voice acting for the game, please do. Even though I can do some voices, I can't do them all. Mainly because although I can adjust my voice, it is difficult to get the voices I picture in my mind because my voice sounds too much like a kid's to work in this game properly. I can do some more evil voices but I doubt I can do everything myself. (female voices especially.)
Well, my vocal range goes from Bb two octaves below midC to Bb below midC, so I'm only suitable for deep voices, so possibly Adam? I might record myself later. Anyway, have Dance Club. I tried to make it sound like you're hearing it second-hand, I.e. it's coming out of the speakers in the club as opposed to your speakers.
Wonderful. It seems it would work just fine. Time to give you guys who haven't played the hack yet, a bigger look at the bike stages as they are: Round 7B: Bridge Level Round 7A: Wastelands P.S. anyone interested in putting either of these videos onto X-Cult is welcome to it. You'll never catch me on those boards though. At least not for a while anyhow. Try checking back in maybe 1-3 years and I MIGHT decide to.
