    Sonica, that is pretty well spot on! Excellent work!

    If I might request one additional change, could you darken the bottoms to make them more alike in shading to the original sprite? This would add a great deal of depth.

    Spherical objects will be the most translucent in the center, and more opaque on the sides. This has to do more with angle of contact than thickness. Then again, that is for glass and other completely clear objects. I suppose you'd be correct regarding the thickness since the content of the sphere is someone opaque. This is complicated. Am I putting too much thought into this?

    Regardless, here's some photos of translucent spheres (bouncy balls!) for reference:

    I'd like to see how that would look too. At the moment I like the look of the ball itself, but in the mockup, it looks a little messy with the balls showing through each other. Too much overlapping. If that doesn't work out either, I think I'd actually prefer them to be completely opaque.

    I tried a slightly darker outside:

    I might change the shading, but only is that ^ still isn't gel-enough.

    Looking good. The transparency is much better now. Whether it's perfect is up for debate; I've currently got no opinion on that matter.

    However, I would like to continue petitioning for a darker bottom half to add some depth.

    Quickly whipped something up that is more along the lines of what I'd like to see.

    <img src="http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa30/BlazeHedgehog/sonic2hd-jelly.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    Resized down:

    <img src="http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa30/BlazeHedgehog/jellyballsmall2.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />
    <img src="http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa30/BlazeHedgehog/jellyexample.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    Basically, the shine on the orb should be more to a point rather than a big round blob. There should be a little bit of shine around the rim on the bottom to suggest light refracting through the orb.

    Oooh very nice, but it needs some bubbles inside. Nice stuff.

    Ok, if we are running with the enemies still being made of balls. Which is entirely plausible to make it apparent that it is a hazard to Sonic. I thought it would be an awesome idea if the ball had ripples. As if it was really a liquid some how conformed to a ball shape. I found an amazing example of this that I'd like to share with you;

    This would be awesome. I had the same idea a while back, but I had nothing to show for it.

    Nice, that could look very cool. And that's a <I>perfect</I> example :D.

    I can say almost without a doubt that we'll be using a design very similar to that. While I can't guarantee that it will be animated the first time it's seen, we'll definitely be making an effort to do so.

    What if it shot out as a single stream, then segmented into the spheres?

    I'd have to see this in action to say yes or no.
