On the subject of torrents: drx, how big is the torrent you're uploading? (I need to know if I should free up some space or not)
Domain Name: sonicspin.org Allocated Disk Space: 1000.00G Used Disk Space: 94.71M Percentage: 0% Total Files: 4480 Allocated Bandwidth: 1000.00G Bandwidth Used This Month: 0.00b Bandwidth Used: 0% Location: California Correct me if I'm missing something. If it's not too late, Jen and I would like to go ahead and mirror all of the Mega Drive, Game Gear, and 32X Sonic games (including some of the 3rd party titles) and later host the rest of the Sonic games on our site. We're a small site so we should be able to do this for little awhile. Otherwise we'll go ahead and host them whenever ;p
Shame that Nineko had to quit over something so trivial. Does anybody know what his problems with torrents were?
I mean, if you have only a couple other people in the torrent and they've put a cap on their uploads, then YES, torrents will be slower than most direct downloads, especially if you have something like DAP. HOWEVER, if you are downloading A NEW AND POPULAR TORRENT LIKE THIS ONE, there are likely to be tons of seeds and peers and there shouldn't be a problem. It can go as fast because it does the multiple file chunk (arguably the "point" of using torrents) download thing that accelerators like DAP use.
Mirror list being maintained at http://www.sonicretro.org/error/500.html To be added on list PM me on IRC or AIM (its catch 20 20)
http://sonar.heranbago.com/protos/ We're no strangers to love~ So are we going to keep a list of mirrors in the OP or what?
I strongly urge mirrors to repack the roms into 7-zip format. Just compress different versions of the same game together and you'll get rather massive compression ratios, cutting your bandwidth costs and making it easier for other people to download. Just make sure to un-rar the files first.
can someone PLEASE update my mirror so it says I have all the sonic protos uploaded? EDIT: actually it doesn't seem to matter, no one's downloaded from me anyway =P EDIT 2: I'm wrong some people have... but no one cares so I don't even know why I'm posting
http://sonar.heranbago.com/protos/Hidden%2...2023rd,%202008/ Just whacked the whole archive on there. You can also download it directly: http://sonar.heranbago.com/protos/Hidden%2...,%202008.tar.gz I haven't got 7zip installed on my server.... so it's just tar.gz for now.
Same here. By the way. -=Mass Downloading Guide=- If you're one of those people who doesn't like to download 1 massive filesize, this guide will help. -=Tools of The Trade=- Firefox The "FlashGot" Extension FlashGet At least 860 MB Free on your HD 1.) Let's say where going here: Qjimbo's Server 2.) Go to, oh say the 32x folder. Once you get to it, you see a lot of files. Assuming you have the FlashGot ext. installed, do the following: 1.) Right-Click and select "FlashGot All". 2.) Once the menu pops-up, click "Opt." and in the drop-down box, select ".ZIP;.EXE;.BIN;.GZ;.Z;.TAR;.ARJ;.LZH;.A[0-9]?;.RAR;.R[0-9]?". 3.) Hit Ok. 4.) Choose a download location and you're done.
Just informing you that my mirror is now available, I'm only doing the Ristar, Sonic & Chaotix protos, no Saturn prototypes though, slow uploads. http://soti.retrohack.org/protos/
I will have a mirror up likely by tomorrow. I'll post the link when it's done. I'll be hosting everything that was released.
